What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Very neat and tidy. :+1:

May I ask why you haven’t treated the nuts and washers?

Lanoguard is clear so everything is you can see is coated (except the exhaust) including the nuts and bolts. They had very slight surface rust but shouldn’t get any worse now that they are covered.

Are you sure your reg plate still meets the legal requirements for reflections, or rather lack of?

Based on the pic, a camera flash may result in an illegible reg plate…

Are you for real ?

absolutely

that does not meet the following requirement

MOT inspection manual: cars and passenger vehicles - 0. Identification of the vehicle - Guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Had it on 14 years.
That was a new replacement.
I guess if it was such an issue I’d have known by now.

Don’t know actually.
But, in truth, not one toss does one give! :joy:

Drove 345 miles today in 5 hrs. That’s an average of 69 mph. Got to love those French motorways.

I Don’t Know Whether the MOT Link You’ve Shown Applies

What I Do Know Is Scottish Law is Different to the Law in England & Wales Though

I got an advisory for the rear number plate on my Mazda 6 a couple of months ago. ā€œRear Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (0.1 (b))ā€ which completely baffled me and the guys at the Mazda main dealer who service it. I can’t see anything wrong with it. Still, if that’s all that’s wrong with the car, I’ll take it

Police up here are usually too busy herding Buckfast belligerents, deep fry chippy gang raiders, and Greater Hairy Haggis poachers frankly. And, they are too fat to catch up with me.
Until they report to my son.

Spent the day replacing the old crusty coilovers with some nice new MeisterR ClubRace ones. wider OZ wheels and Toyo Proxes.

I had to go for a drive afterwards and the difference is black and white. Very happy today

Nice pristine level looking rot free Mk1 that.
Are you arranging a laser session?
OCD ( me!) cream on top …maybe not required.

Thank you  Yes I am! Luckily, there’s a company who prepares mx5s for racing in the next town over from me, so she’ll be booked in ASAP. I’ve heard that alignment is very important on these cars, is it best to go for no camber, or something a bit more spicy?

The current alignment is awful, negative camber of about 3° on the rears. And that was before I fiddled with the suspension.

You must be the life of the partyā€¦ā€¦šŸ«¢

TBH,
I’d rather let them discuss you needs.
It’s a black art.
My preference is the so called ā€œfast roadā€ setting ? Which means it digs in quickish, at the expense of front tread but it’s low miles usage so I do not care much.
You can drive a coach and horses plus or minus with standard…pretty broadband … so tbh maybe just get it set to somewhere around factory. But…see what they say if they are that good.
I 'd not go too aggressive at first…see how you get on to begin with standard.

Thanks for the advice - I’ll see what they recommend.

I’m in a similar situation to you really, I don’t drive the car that often so a ā€œfast road / trackā€ setup seems ideal for me.

The place in question is BC cars in Haverhill, I don’t know if you have heard of them (probably not given you live in Scotland?). From their website they seem to know their stuff!

Well I’ve read through the regulations quoted and I can’t see any reason why a clear plastic cover would render it illegal. Yes a tinted cover would but not clear.

99% of all number plates are made from a coloured reflective sheet with black non-reflective digits behind a clear acrylic sheet. So if a clear plastic covering in front of a plate makes it illegal virtually every car on the road would fail the MOT.

Every number plate recognition system either on car parks or speed cameras manages perfectly well with all our shiny acrylic plates.
