What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

I used a permanently flexibile silicone adhesive/sealant on mine as I couldn’t get the rubber sides to stick. It hasn’t moved in nearly a year even at motorway speeds with roof down so worked for me.

This is what I used

Good tip, thanks. I’ve added it to my wish list and will see how the adhesive strips settle over the next few days.
Thinking about it, I’m sure I’ve got some double sided tape somewhere that I could try first if needed.

Double sided tape doesn’t stick well to the rubber. I apply 3M adhesive promoter to the rubber before sticking the tape. One thing that can affect the grip on the hoops is if there is any polish or dressing on there that hasn’t been completely removed by the wipes. Happy to send out replacement side guides and cleaning wipes if anyone does struggle to get them to stick.

Thanks Paul, I’ll see how it goes and let you know. I did clean the hoops carefully but have only had the car a few months so it’s possible there was some ‘product’ on there beforehand that might be causing the problem.

Mazda must have been busy fitting the Aero body kits today. I have had them fitted to my :100: Annerversary Edition today too :face_with_hand_over_mouth:.

Fitted an OEM cam cover gasket and success! It has cured an oil weep, where the old one had split. Very satisfying given I had low expectatiions of my DIY skills.

Reinsured it, what an eye opener that was.
Stuck with my current insurers Admiral.
As usual not many could match what I already have, even with a modified insurance company.
Job done now.

Do you have legal cover with Admiral? I didn’t and they are making me pay £300 excess despite having been rear ended in a no fault accident.

Had three chips in my windscreen filled in today. Don’t believe all the adverts claiming these repairs are invisible. The technician says maybe 1/100 can be successful, if he’s lucky. I’d rather have had a new screen, but those tossers at AutoGlass said that the chrome surround on my Launch Edition was an aftermarket add on and I’d have to remove it myself before they would attend. Needless to say, I didn’t avail myself of their services.

No I don’t have that on my policy, never have.
They’ve been playing around with my price again but having done a great number of compares and individual insurance companies not on the compare sites. So it’s back to Admiral and accept their price, with a price reduction of course. Not enough really but being a long standing customer they gave me a small discount, oh I am grateful. House insurance dirt cheap these days but not motor insurance, I’m on multi cover.:unamused:

I had the 3 series and the Miyako on Admiral multicar last time, at roughly 400.00

Admiral wanted roughly 600.00 to renew both, so I used the new Martins Money Tips motor insurance search tool and was able to insure both for roughly 300.00.
I think the Miyako was 145.00.
Result

I’ve tried MSE insurance quote and many others, including ringing direct two specialists for modified insurance. Result, prices far too high. It seems they read the same hymn sheet, that’s £298, or £302, £303 or unsurprisingly the last one £299.
So I gave up, happy enough to stick with the quoted but then discounted Admiral multi quote.

I got two cars for that money. The 3 series with Churchill and the Mazda with LV.

I do live in Devon though and both cars are kept on the drive.

Not modded though, I guess that’s the difference

Painted the Engine cover in VVHT Wrinkle red. Still waiting on a few bits and bobs until it’s completely done
