Really? Even with the fish tank sponge? I thought that would let the water through easily.
Well not 100% sure on fish tank sponge, but what I used was quite ‘open’ and thought it would drain ok. Guess it got clogged with dirt etc running down.
Just be aware and check if it’s draining properly
Think if you clean regularly as recommended then all will be fine
Fitted a set of Turn Signal Inlets (the ones available from Moss) on my 95 1.8 NA.
Converted the side-lights to DRL’s while I was at it. I had already fitted a set of ‘angel-eye’ LED lamps.
I think that they look great.
Must be worth 20bhp…
I’ve got a pump in our small pond with the sponge filters inside, they do collect the muck and have to be cleaned regularly. It’s a good idea to place the sponge in the drain outlet, needs checking regularly especially if you keep the car outside.
Fixed the broken woodruff key on the crank which was causing erratic tickover and low power.
Washed (including underside) and dried. Have had to use it more frequently than I would have normally in some rubbish weather recently.
Same here - all your points. She looks lovely. I think white is the nicest colour. If I ever order a new one I’ll choose white.
We got a new battery for my car, which is dated 2022, one of the OEM Panasonic parts.
What we didn’t realise is that this car still had its original one from May 2003 on nearly 70k miles
I think a lot depends on how much you don’t use your car, if that makes sense. Lead-acid batteries last well provided they are kept fully charged. Once they lose charge, the plates sulphate much more quickly. A regularly-driven car will have a fully-charged battery, so the battery will last for years. I bought my ND from a lady who had left it unused for several months and the battery failed after a short time with me. I drive my car regularly but if I am going to be away for more than a week I connect a trickle-charger. It is important too with the ND (possibly not the latest ones) that the cruise control is disabled before leaving the car, as there is a current drain otherwise.
I see you managed to source an OEM Panasonic battery. I considered trying to get the genuine article but in the end bought a pattern Yuasa Silver one from Halfords. It has been fine for nearly 2 years. As far as I know, for a non-Start Stop car such as yours and mine, any decent quality lead acid battery will do fine.
For some strange reason that only affected early RF models. Most should have been cured by a software update.
I was considering Yuasa as well but due to the amount of uncertainty and my general proclivity to mess with stuff I don’t understand, I chose to go for something I know will always work, and work forever (as evidenced). Don’t want to mess with electrics unless I’m 100% sure of what I’m doing. The Yuasa HJ-A24L that I think matches costs 170 whereas the Panasonic one is 120-130 from the usual source.
Also the battery has been about the same in terms of lifetime since the May 2021 when I bought the car. Lasts 1-2 weeks wired in, but disconnected it lasted 2+ months in 15 degree temps sitting outside and then fired right up.
New G19 coil plate got fitted recently which should be the last of the “cosmetic” mods I do.
If there are any specialists near Oxfordshire that are willing to do an engine/gearbox/diff swap and ITB setup (and actually reply/keep in contact) then send me a message
Looks great, does it restrict the seat travel at all as I need mine all the way back?
I have just checked. The seats do go right back, but it does depend on the rake of the seat. It is possible for the headrest to be in contact with the bar if the seat is reclined enough.
Does that make sense?
Fitted a new leather handbrake gaiter. There was nothing wrong with the old one, I just fancied a change.
Old
New
Makes perfect sense, thanks for that
Was this because you were pulled up on an MOT for LED bulbs? If you want to lose the orange look there are silver coated filament bulbs available. Only show the correct amber colour when they are lit.
My client claims to have been conducting “pre-emptive maintenance” Your Honour.
