Took my Sport Black to JR Classics in Doncaster, for their full rustproof and underseal procedure.
Bit of a trip from the Midlands, but it will be well worth it and their work is excellent quality.
They are fully booked up until April 2024…

My 12-plate Sport Black has 75,000 on the clock, a decent coating of surface rust underneath but no visible sill rust. Someone who has looked under plenty of Mazda’s had mine up on the ramp and said “it’s not THAT bad actually”. He may have been trying to spare my feelings though.
So I would be interested to know what hidden horrors get discovered during the process. Or have you already had them poke about underneath to see if it needs welding?
Mine has 47,000 on it and has always been garaged. It was my daily for a few years, but always well cared for.
He couldn’t get it on the ramps as there wasn’t a space, but he did grovel around it for a good 10 minutes and said it just looks like the standard surface rust. Nothing he was worried about, but did stress that it could change when the wheel linings etc are removed.
The good thing is that they send pictures of the progress and always ask your opinion and give you a price, prior to any other extra work that may require doing.
Oil and filter change, a touch and feel and a good look over whilst on the ramp in prep for Donington Park this coming Saturday
Old version compared with new:
Gave the 5 a fresh clean and whist out on my travels this morning I spotted this cool wall mural not far from my place so had to stop for a quick snap… Hope for Ukraine
Cleaned up all the wheel wells/liners and the backs of each wheel etc for the MOT (which isn’t for a few weeks yet) and just to check over everything. All looks good….roll on April !!
I’m doing a similar job, brake refurb (new pads) discs are hardly worn and very serviceable. Done the rears last week, arch liners out, brake caliper & carriers de rusted and painted.
Uncovered a shocker of a front brake dust shield, needs replacing really. For now its going back together, dust shield replacement for later.
It’ll never look as good as yours Davy but getting there.
You really are spoiling that MOT inspector. After all, wouldn’t want them getting their hands dirty.
They just love having both sides of the tyres nice and shiny with tyre dressing….
Got my 2011 MX-5 back from the Mazda main dealer where they inspected the front suspension for a slight knocking sound I’m getting going over bumps. Head technician had it on the ramp, checked everything and test drove it but couldn’t replicate the issue. Likely brittle bushes in the cold weather. That’s good enough for me, especially as they very kindly didn’t charge me for their time (can you imagine a Mercedes dealer doing that?). They said they’ll put it on the ‘shakers’ for the MOT test in the summer to be triply sure it’s all ok. They remarked how good a condition the car is in, so all in all quite positive even if I haven’t really ‘done’ anything with the car!
I fitted mine last year. One of the best things I did.
Make sure you set the opening MPH speed low though……
Thanks. Yep, not that interested in being able to operate on the move.
For me it was more about removing the need to press for the whole operation, and being able to programme the roof to come down when the release catch was unlatched etc.
I thought that, but you most likely will use it when deciding at a junction to lower/raise it while driving off slowly.
Saves an awful lot of gesticulations and horn sounding from other drivers!
They’re a bit sharp!!
