What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Good luck with everything…:+1:

Mine had been hardly used for several years. It now drives like a dream.

Have you done any special preparation?

There’s about 40psi in the tyres to prevent flat spots (it’s also been rolled back or forth in the garage every two weeks) so they need to be let down to 29psi. It also gets cranked a few times without fuel. Then it should just go. Always a bit nervous engaging the aircon in case the compressor has seized!

After spending 2 days driving round the Lake District I’m delighted with how the car feels. Much less roll on cornering and very little dip under braking. It’s significantly better to drive and I feel more confident, particularly when accelerating out of a corner. The overall ride comfort seems to be the same and the car has no issues going over speed bumps I should’ve done this years ago….

A friend has decided to invest in a more user-friendly drivers-car after years on the back of a big touring bike or in boring family saloons.

Today she was introduced to my Niseko and given a tour of some of the more interesting local roads, lid hid and lid up to feel the different experiences.

The Niseko was brilliant as usual, and enjoyed shaking off any cobwebs that might have accumulated over the last few months.

My friend is now sold on the idea, she only needs to find the right car now, probably an ND or RF.

Sensibly she’s not in a hurry, but she has now begun looking and will do a few longer test drives in the different models to find what suits her best.

I’ve also pointed her at the O/C and forum.

Finished installing my Mk3.75 centre console, complete with new gators and armrest cover from J F Customs.
Really pleased with the end result.
Just got to find a cable to connect from my new Aux In socket, to the back of my radio. The original installation didn’t have this option.

Replaced the fob battery today and was disappointed with the result.
I still had to pressthe buttons hard with my thumbnail and get close to the window.
So I took the fob completely apart and cleaned all the dust and crud from the buttons etc.
It made a surprising difference.
Very fiddly to reassemble though.

That moment when a 10min battery swap turns into a hour fishing mission, went to change the battery and dropped the hook bolt down into the bottom of the engine bay, not a problem usually just jack it up take off under protection and retrieve , only problem is its to low to just jack, so needs to be driven onto a riser first, but can’t start the car with the risk of the hook being cought in a pulley, so begins a 50 min mission with a rod and magnetic trying to retrieve said item.
I love fixing cars

Did similar, but jacked the side of the car up with the car Jack which raised it enough to get the trolley Jack underneath (even bought a low profile trolley Jack and it is still just too tall)

Checked out the fob from the full length of the drive today (10metres) and it worked a treat, so giving the fob a deep clean to make sure the buttons are working properly ishighly recommended.

Is yours one of the older (smaller) fobs, or one of the current larger ones?

The daily driver got some love today, wash and vacuum the interior and some interior trim love.
As the sun was shining out came the Recaro for the same treatment. It’s getting some miles put on it this coming week, weather forecast looks good.
One glass of wine with the Sunday roast and I’m done for.

Removed and cleaned the hood drain filters on my mk4. Easy enough to get out using my own technique, but replacing the filters and covers by feel requires a bit of muscle memory, and trial and error! Hope to go for a drive up to St Bees tomorrow.

Been out after 5 months’ layup. Started fine, only lssue is scraping noise from rusted discs. The calipers aren’t seizing (wheels stay cool and brakes work perfectly) so it will go away after 100 miles or so. It was a very damp winter - I have never known the discs go so rusty.

The car is an NC2 or 3.5, so a 4 button fob with lock, unlock, boot open and alarm sensor

Car has been for its yearly MoT today, tho I didn’t take it and had to rely on my brilliant Bro-in Law to help me out as I’m unfortunately in hospital.
However, passed with flying colours. :sunglasses:

Mine (2022 ND2) is the larger 3-button fob. Why it has to be so large beats me, but it is held together so tightly that I doubt that a soot microparticle could force its way inside…

Hospital?! Do you need someone to come and give you a bed-bath?

Joking aside, I hope you are OK.
