Put in a new (2nd hand) widow regulator ont eh drievr’s side of my NB, went mostly OK, but getting that runer next to teh 1/4 light back is a pain and I now need a new one, but it’ll do fr now.

Respect for DIY
Paid my non-specialist mechanic to install a new one drivers side…but it goes up and down faster than the original passenger side one in my NB but bless him when I started fretting and he said ‘not needed yet’ as he is fully aware of my ‘Renovate & Restore’ Goal. Was very pleased to pay him for the work as he’d kindly ‘locked the window’ in the up position when the regulator suddenly broke and didn’t charge me at the time
Meanwhile enjoying use of both windows on those mini trips not long enough to do Roof Down
Sometimes a little lube in the quarter light channel guide strip can speed things up. Scrub it in there with soapy water and an old toothbrush then when dry add some silicone lube. Keep it clean
Worked wonders on my old MK1 slow windows.
Yes I had put plenty of silicon lube on it, but just a pain, I ended up snapping of the tang that goes atop the 1/4 light hence needing new one,but all works fine as it is.
@Bullit2005 I watched one or two vis before I did it, but none of them had the hassle of the door alarm and remote open/close mechanism there - that created a bit of wnagling to get bits of it past taking old out nd putting new in, but it’s doable.
No garage for me all done on the street.
Just seen a post by an ND Owner…problems with Window Regulator
So ‘Go NB Owner Go’ with DIY…Respect
No Offence Meant in my Last Post rather Envy that I’m Too ‘Cream Crackered’ to do this myself
“Window goes up, window goes down”
AND Enjoyed Your Humour
No offence taken, never even noticed anything to be offended with either
Will be doing most of my work from now on, always did the bits I was confident of doing but seeing as the garage I’ve been using for 5-6 yers is now charging £60/hr and now also won’t fit any parts unless they get them from their supplier, they also over charged me for an aftermarket water pump when I was getting the timing done and it took them a month - apparently they couldn’t get the parts !
I’m also one of these folk that think if he/she can do it, then so can I, might take me a wee bit longer, but they ain’t special or superhuman, just have more experience.
Overcharge someone once and lose them for good, it’s difficult to build up trust and respect, but so so so easy to destroy it, so I’llbe a fully fledge mechanic before long
Double VAT? Just had that myself. Don’t like paying 40% tax on anything. Garage pays £100 for something and you end up shelling out £144 when you could have paid £120. And you told the garage which part number.
I suppose the double VAT is why they charge more, but when they’re charging you £10 more than the OEM part for an aftermarket part, then no matter how they try to explain it in your head is “you’re ripping me off and there’s nothing I can do about it - except never come back”
Phew…Thought it Was Just Me aka Bullitt
“Garage I’ve been using for 5-6 years” “Won’t fit any parts unless they get them from their supplier”
[Had Identical Experience with my Window Regulator ]
I also totally get your observations on DIY and TRUST
[Have been confounded by both my specialist/non-specialist mechanics behaviours of late]
But then I remembered Cost of Living/Energy Crisis and its toll on Businesses and All of Us and an important component to Trust called ‘Good Will’ which many folk are now having to withdraw in order to survive
[The apparent upside is we all get to become more competent at tasks me old bones would rather not do again at my age…I’m so lucky. Dreaming of moving to France…you’re gonna get your Old Age Pension 62-64 yrs there]
Did you have to remove the fogs to apply the film, or were you able to do them in place?
I cut a template from thick card and kept offering it up to the aperture. Then cleaned the light and got squgee card in as far as i could.
Cut my tint and heated the lamp and applied the tint. started off at the top and kept easing the tint behind the cover only about 2-3mm extra to work around. id say im 90% happy but it looks good
I updated the (10 years old!) satnav. This was the first time the TomTom software worked as it should. Maybe they’ve recruited some actual programmers.
Good news: the new A419/A420 junction layout is on there. Bad news: my mother’s new road isn’t.
Just shows you the difference between a ‘proper’ TomTom and those done in collaboration with manufacturers. As I’ve always found TomTom’s updates to be excellent and pretty responsive to road changes.
I still have a standalone unit with lifetime updates, mainly for use in hire cars abroad.
This takes me back a few years. My ND has satnav but I have installed the hardware Apple CarPlay (not difficult) so I use my iPhone now - Maps or Waze. No more updating. The phone, being internet-connected, knows where the traffic problems are and you have the key features of your phone, including music, to hand when you’re driving. Not sure how to get CarPlay onto NA,B,C but if there is a way it is well worth considering,
This is the notorious Sanyo NVA-SD110 in the Venture.
