Wasn’t a big fan of the colour of the dash trim, plus it had a mark where the colour had come off, and had seen some models came with gloss/piano black, and I’ve already sprayed a few bits (roller over hoops, rear deck panels, wing mirrors) gloss black for the red & black look I’m going for…
Whilst wasting time browsing eBay the other week for all things mx5 I came across a good looking piece of trim for £30, offered £25 and it was accepted…
Watched a few YouTube vids for removing the trim around the handbrake etc and where the screws where that held the trim on, and after an hours work we have the before and after shots… very pleased with the end result.
Hi Mick, yeah I’ve got a refurbished wheel on order from Royal, should be with me next week, so the plan is to spray the steering wheel inserts black once I’ve got them off my current wheel…
Have thought about spraying the dash trim I took off in True Red, which is what I think you got with the Club model available in the US….
The interior door handles have a silver insert in them which are looking a bit tired too so might get them masked up and glossed blacked too…
I believe it was eBay seller J F Customs for the gaiters👍
Did the door card trims satin silver too, brightens things up.
Sold that NC two years ago, lovely car.
Swapped the interior from black leather to the Launch Edition red seats and door cards.
I had the smaller bottle with built in applicator for my S2000 (I passed it onto the new owner) - as I only applied it twice a year. It was quite convenient.
I ordered the spray bottle as I figured I might need to use more if it and more often…
I’d stick the applicator version myself, so the first option. I have a similar bottle and makes application dead easy. I use it on all door rubbers, so it’s not just useful for MX-5/S2000 etc.
I’ve used it for 20-odd years and it stops doors sticking to the rubber in cold weather. It’s also a god-send for frameless doors, you know the ones where the window glass drops slightly when you open the door? Well when it’s -5 or whatever, the window will try and drop but finds itself frozen to the unprotected rubber seal. Cue damaged window mechanisms - ask me how I know! It was an E36 3-Series coupe in the late 90s that prompted me to find this solution!
Thanks, I was thinking of Shin-Etsu… think I’ll take a shot with a cheaper silicone grease equivalent instead. Aerial seal has had it but the rest are hanging on so far.
replaced the door bushings for Cobalt Delrin one’s on the NC. was go’ing to use the cheap ebay one’s but as i’m go’ing to keep the MX for a few years then no.
I stuck the club decals on. I looked for places that will not obscure my view when driving. Here are some lousy photos. One on the windscreen on the passenger side (LHD):
Ha ha… part of me wishes it was but the sensible part can say no. @Jaycs_NC posted a picture of his soft top and mentioned he made a mistake on ordering a PRHT spoiler. I found it hard to find a spoiler that was more than a lip but not ridiculous like firefly. This is off alli express. Cost 77 with all taxes and “carbon” fibre. Tbh looking at it was defo worth the punt. Not fitted yet - that’s later today but test fit was 90-100% spot on
Not so good looking IL motorsport dash vents out replaced with standard with chrome outline. Jass performance handbrake handle. Doer bushings ( working progress to get them in the best place). Shifter bushes and boots replaced, a shame the mx5 parts doesn’t have a full kit, the small spring plate was completely deteriorated. Engine oil topped up as have a bit of a crank seal leak, in with Sam Goodwin soon so hopefully that will be cured. All in all easy and quick work, apart from one vent.
All on and trip out and still on the car. Always a win!! Also new battery - had a few dodgy starts and alarm going off randomly. Whipped the + cover off on old terminal to find new holding screw and was flopping around. Still changed it.
The Precious passed her MOT yesterday with no advisories, (woohoo!) so I thought I’d give the old girl’s headlights a freshen up with Turtle Wax lens restorer. They had gone quite yellow and murky over the winter. Half an hours elbow grease and now they’re back nice and shiny.
Now we’re all set for another year of top down fun.
