What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

New wheels! New tyres! To make space for new brakes! TBC!

Yes there is. The_MXiCan has changed his indicator bulbs to “switchback” LED units that show bright white on sidelight, but flash yellow when indicating.

Out of the back of the bulb is a plug which goes into the indicator lead, there is a wire (for the white light) that goes to the sidelight and a wire that goes to the headlight which switches the white switchback off when the headlights are on.

Some people leave the original sidelight but replace with a white LED bulb so that colours “match” as against a white “drl” and a yellow-ish sidelight.

I did this to my Mk3.75 and I’ve modified a friends Mk3.75 as well.

Neil (RIP) also modified his lights the same way and did an excellent video.

Added to the list!

Thank you for this. Is there a particular brand that’s recommended.

I had no idea these existed.

You can also use them on the rear to give you twin reversing lights.

This is the item you need for front & back.

Thank you for the link. That’s not bad value at all. :+1::+1:

Mick ,
The DRL’s should just DIM when the side lights are turned on :white_check_mark::white_check_mark: ( not go off ) :sunglasses:

I’d like these on my car but I haven’t got the confidence or knowledge to have a go at fitting them.
Not a difficult job for an auto electrician though.

Would they fit a 2010 NC2 ?

Fitted the roof wedges from @Roadie they seem to have done the trick with the roof rubbing on the rollover hoop trim (quite far up in my case, about an inch)

Also silicone key cover from m.s.h.20 on eBay for £6, as the metal on the buttons on these fobs always peels with me. Slightly concerned it’ll be a dirt magnet but we’ll see.

Next mission: front mud flaps

I’ve had nothing but positive feedback on the wedges. Last batch sold out but more on the way. If anyone wants a set message me and I’ll let you know when I have more stock. :grinning:

Yes they will. :+1: You will need to splice into the sidelight feed.

Thanks Geoff, will check again later when I can start it. Got a couple of sensors unplugged at present on the car, project detailing going on under the bonnet.

They do dim when the sidelights are switched on, it’s just not that noticeable in daylight. I put the front end in the garage without the garage lights on and noticed they dimmed, not much though.
Thanks Geoff.:+1:

Tracking Device(s)

I bought a four-pack of Apple AirTags (£99 Amazon) and some sticky-backed holders and have fitted them to the cars.

They will report where they are except the home address (option). That being said, if someone walks past with bluetooth on their phone turned on, the app on my iPhone will update that the cars have been seen.

If I’ve left the car parked somewhere, it will remember where it is and send me a notification about 5 minutes after I’ve left it. If it’s nicked, hopefully I’ll get a ping and details of where it is - the tags are well disguised, obviously I’m not going to say how or where.

Got the car detailed and fitted something that was on my bucket list for a while.

OK…not talking to myself but just wanted to add that although the dreaded ‘C’ word was not put on this years MOT like 2022 I know it’s still lurking e.g. on her exterior wheel arches…work in progress

Plus re near TerryM1 accident with my mature 82 yr old next door garage neighbour. Not his fault me thinks…just happened to pull up in his ‘blind spots’ which can happen to other drivers as the NB is so low in comparison to saloons.

They look really nice, and no need for the horrible spoiler thing on the drivers side

They work well too!

Replace windscreen washers…literally a 5 minute job. Use a 10mm socket to move the clips in to easily remove the old washers.
