What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Excellent, I’m just about to do this and it is a timely post. Many thanks!

Cleaned the PRHT rubber seals and lubed the pivot points and mechanism.

Also more fettling in the engine bay.

That looks fantastic! Have you replaced anything to get it looking that good? Mine is super clean and very low mileage but it doesn’t look that good. Lots of the small spring type hose clips are starting to corrode and I’m thinking about replacing them all.

It was pretty clean when I bought the car 2 years ago, thanks to the previous owner (Bally) doing his stuff.
I used Elbow Grease (the kitchen cleaner) some white spirit to dissolve stubborn grease and some underseal overspray and Autoglym rubber and vinyl spray.
I’ve touched up parts, nuts/bolts and a couple of brackets with paint including yes the rusting hose clips.

Thanks, you’ve definitely done a good job, hopefully I can get mine looking as good job. I’m currently working on the underneath and suspension but the engine bay might have to be next on the list.

Did the underside of mine earlier in the year, top up of underseal, new brake pads, painted calipers. Just renewed the front brake shields and new hubs, I’m about done, I think unless… oh forgot new drop links all round too.

I’ve been hard at work replacing my window bushes today, along with cleaning and greasing the window guides.

The old bushes were definitely due for replacement!

All done. A bit tricky getting the windows back in but worth it in the end.

Very smart

I’ve just done drop links and painted all the suspension arms, brake disc shields still to tackle, was tempted just to replace them rather than try to tidy up but was put off thinking it looked like a big job especially the rears.

Put the roof half way down, and gave all the rubber trims around the folding roof some love with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care.

Fitted my roof wedges thanks to Mr Kent.

Fitted in minutes and the roof now has a decent gap on both sides. :+1:

Very much recommended…

Good stuff. Can see the small indentations where it has been touching before. Another set of wedges doing the job. :grinning:

I still have them available (£18 for the pair). Message me for details.

Thanks for posting.

My roof has similar “dents” under the material and I know for a fact that the roof has never rubbed as I’ve always opened and locked from outside the car, per the manual, and also shaved the hoops a tad as extra protection. Your wedges gives the roof enough room so if I open and lock down from inside the car I know I’ve got a minimum 5mm gap.

I’ve got a roof install with minimal clearance from new so always been extra careful.
