What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

To paraphrase Russell from the Detectorists “He’ll catch his death in this weather.”

Today I was busy boy, as my driver side window regulator packed in last month I decided to change the passenger side too as a “just in case”, lately I have noticed the passenger side starting to slow down.

Lucky I did as the motor spool was packed in brown gunk… after 8 years I’m sure it was only a matter of time before it packed up…

Followed up by a good ole clean, with a fresh coat of wax

Sorry about pic was playing photoshop

Had fitted MX5 parts duel exit back box and Hoffman centre pipe (non resonated).

Sound is just about right, nice deep burble thats not intrusive at motorway speeds

Finished undersealing the four wheel bays. Used an epoxy mastic in the end. Bit of a faff but wanted to try something different. It’s totally dry and has a gloss finish.

Was it easy to take off the plastic wheel arch covers?

Yes…all you need is a 10mm and 8mm socket and phillips screwdriver. Also undo the bottom bolts on the front wings. This allows enough movement and access to clear all debris trapped and treat the bottom of the wings too.

Winter wheels and tyres. Unplanned purchase however a local ex member offered them for sale this week and after having the back step out a couple of times on a run last weekend it seemed like a reasonable buy. Both cars now on Crossclimate+ tyres, the Toyota stays on them all year, the Mazda will go back to Hankook Ventus in the Spring.

Youve left the jack under it. Not fully down yet

In the process of taking the engine out to check the bearings, sort some oil leaks and replace the tired old engine mounts. Everything disconnected and anti roll bar bolts sprayed with wd40 ready to remove tomorrow.

Pure definition clay bar, super resin polish and Bilt Hamber double speed wax. Not too shabby :+1:

Great stuff that double speed wax, even if there’s nothing quicker about using it

Half speed

Had a great run down to local Cupra dealer to look at a potential replacement car for the other half. Lots of admiring chat with the salespeople there, but the car was shamefully filthy so today gave it a good seeing to.

What your wax of choice, Dean?

If I have the time I’ll finish with the bilt hamber as have you, but a lot of time I get good results just topping off polishing with autoglym extra gloss protection, purely for speed of removal.

Finished off the rear inner wheel bays, applied cavity wax in the sills and chassis rails. Cleaned the underbody ready for underseal next week. Lastly cleaned the passenger side of the engine as it was pretty grimey.

Had a box full of soft 99 goodies for a couple of weeks. Got them for half price in their sale.

Really I wanted to wash it and give it a coat of Fusso coat, but due to a lack of time and it being literally freezing today, I limited myself to doing the glass with Glaco.
Firstly, washed the windows which was difficult as the washing water froze on the glass with it being so cold.
Then used the Glaco compound on the windscreen, in preparation for theGlaco ultra glass sealant.
I only used the compound on the windscreen, but applied the Glaco sealant to all the windows.
