23,000 Miles on the ND and had the gearbox and diff oils changed.
Got the oils from MX5Parts
2 x Gearbox Oil, Manual, Fully Synthetic, 1 Ltr, All MX5 Models £29.50
1 x Diff Oil, Genuine Mazda Long Life Hypoid SG1, 1 Ltr, Mk4 & RF £24.53
Total Inc delivery etc was £63.98
Labour was 30 minutes at £42.90
Oil was reported as “having some colour” and the magnetic plugs had a bit of debris on them so was told it was a good idea to have had them changed.
When warm on the run home, 1st to 2nd felt less clicky and Neutral or 2nd to 1st seemed to be a cleaner change. Needs a long run now, probably to Nottingham on Thursday.
Question / Validation - So i had my NC Mot, Service, Coolant and brake fluid, Sticky fuel cap and drains rodded and cleaned due to a leak behind drivers door? All OEM parts and castrol fully synthetic and the mazda coolant (provided by me) What do you think it should be? Local mx5 specialist
Not quite all today but over the last week or so I’ve been busy - MX5 OC rejoined, Midland Automotive Club (aka MAC / Shelsley Walsh) rejoined, MUK competition licence renewed, and first event of the year booked (Loton Park School in July). Here’s to another year of fun with my NBFL, which is currently in use as a makeshift sail loft…
had a busy day today changed belt and pulleys then thought I would change front drop links and arb for theI.L.Motorsport one I had sitting in the garage fitted the back and hadn’t got round to fitting the front
then give the wheel arches a bit of a clean will give them a proper spruce up when it aint raining also re paint the calliper’s black as they have got a few bare patches
dont like the red ones bit tacky unless they are bremos or willword
I’m always impressed by those of you with such excellent technical skills.
Personally, I’m trying to pluck up the courage to remove the plastic scuttle panel so I can change the infamous scuttle grommets. I have nightmare visions of ending up with the car in bits, and not knowing how to reassemble it all!
I have limited technical knowledge, tools, experience and no garage but, watching online videos, reading through the help sections on this forum and doing your research beforehand I would say go for it I’ve done mine and other things on my MX-5 was pleased with the sense of achievement that I did them.
That’s an easy one, when ready just ask how it’s done. Tools…one spanner, a crosshead screwdriver and some silicone seal. Parts…a couple of screw cover caps, these invariably break on removal.
The spanner is for the wiper arm nut, not sure of the size but shout up when ready for advice👍
Easy job. No point in replacing the so-called grommets as it’s only the gaskets/seals that will have deteriorated. In fact it’s probably a bad idea to replace them as the metal they are mounted in is very thin and easily bent.
All you need to do is clean away the remains of the old gaskets and replace them with sealant squirted/spread underneath the plastic inserts, having lifted the inserts as you apply the sealant. Lifting is essential!
As it was raining and I bored i thought i would give the car a polish would highly recommend using autosmart products they are trade but you can arange to meet a van and buy off them far better quality than autoglim or meglulars always used them when I had carsales
I Treated the car to a couple of bits out of the car fund Order’d from the USA on Saturday arrive this morning a little expensive how ever its nicely made out of billet Aluminium …
I looked at this one but was told it would not fit an ND 2 still ,looks Very smart l think it enhances the dash look hope mine looks the same l am going to wait to spring time to fit mine plastics do not like the cold and l would not want to bust any of the retaining clips……
Same here Geoff, moved mine 30ft (furthest it’s been in 10 days) out of the garage to make room for an old cooker and fridge/freezer.
A bit of DIY then back in, washing it tomorrow so another 30ft journey
Excuse, I’ve been relaying the kitchen floor and decorating just lately, all done now.
