I think you are looking at the gross vehicle weight for the NC, not the actual weight.
MX5 Parts. ![]()
Not done, but ordered Redline MT90 gearbox oil and diff oil tonight. Kinda spendy, but comes highly recommended, especially for NC’s.
Swapped out the double DIN OEM CD radio head unit for a single DIN with all the DAB/Bluetooth/USB you can shake a stick it. Simple splitter cable for the DAB aerial input seems to do the job even just sat in the garage. Replaced door speakers with the JVC 6x8s, and while I had the door cards off smeared liberal amounts of silicone grease on the window runners. What a difference: smooth, fast running windows!
Got the speaker in my passenger door working.
I thought this was going to be a “hunt the loose wire” job. But I had a read of the user manual first, just in case. And discovered there is indeed a Balance setting on this Bose audio system. Had a quick poke at the audio settings … and boom, the passenger door speaker sprang to life!
Try an fn2 type r, they’re just as bad to get at the filter ![]()
Sold it, last Thursday actually, now the proud owner of a campervan…
New wheels day!
3.5kg per corner saved over the standard 16" wheels, by going down to 15" and 185 tyres. Has made the car feel generally more peppy and agile. Winning.
Most go wider /bigger. An interesting change of direction. An ND too…
I remember people being condescending about the 2CV we owned back in the day… until it started snowing in Cornwall one year. It’s large skinny tyres with far from up to the minute tread design won the day:)
It looks a bit Nascar!
I actually really like that ![]()
Maybe a little lowering and ![]()
Cheers! Its actually pretty low already, 130mm rear and 123mm front from floor to pinch welds (no weight in the car). About 13.5" rear and 13" front if you measure from arch to hub centre like they do in the USA.
Despite the tyres being the same diameter as the standard 16s, the slight stretch makes it looks off road ride height
Don’t want to go lower as I can’t be ar$ed doing all the alignment again, and I enjoy B-road blasting.
Same ride height but on 16s with slightly wider tyres…
We have very similar taste in wheels ![]()
I see what you mean. When you put the smaller wheels on with the chunkier tyres it gives the appearance, I guess you’d have to lower it to an impractical level to give the same look as before.
Oooh that looks reet good ![]()
Yeah, dont wanna go too low. I chat with a guy in Australia who also has 15" wheels and has a ride height where it looks awesome - he ripped his gearbox cooling scoop off last drive out, oops!
Cheers. This is it. Like all things in life, the better it looks (or tastes), the worse it probably is for you (or the car)
.
yeah this hits well with me. Its a good look, Subtle and simple
Got the rear bumper free of all nuts and bolts. Winds to 25mph gusting to 45 is not the best time to take it off those last clips I’m thinking. Tomorrow it all calms down and I can address the rust behind the proper bumper.
Love the view of the ocean from our house but no garage so working on the car can be Pants ![]()
Two people, plus a piece of carpet or something else soft to put it down on helps!

Sounds like me trying to kneel down and clean the wheels - ![]()
