What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Yep indeed

It is just bog standard ā€œself-adhesive car insulation panelsā€ from Amazon. Plenty of choice there! I’m not sure that any one make is better than another. But I think a bit of noise insulating material on larger body panels can reduce drone / echo

wow what a car that is!

Looking good! What roll bar is that?

Thanks :grinning: it is one of these

Refitted the door card, then gave the car a thorough wash and wax ahead of a driving holiday in Scotland next week!

New Badge fitted

sigh TOG failed her MOT today. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Hopefully I can get her sorted before the Donington classic next month. :crossed_fingers:

Gutted :pensive:

Thanks Jeff.
She does that.

Thankfully nothing insurmountable. Parts ordered from MX-5 Parts (just the wrong side of their 10% bank holiday discountšŸ˜)

Interestingly the place I took it picked up on a buckled rim that’s been like it all the time I’ve owned her. It’s never failed on that before. Obviously down to individual interpretations of the examiners.

Hopefully she’ll be up and running before too long.

Besides, it gives me something to do

Had mine through it’s first MOT (with me) last month and I see what you mean by the individual’s interpretation - I take decent care for the car but it’s no garage queen and being 16 years old I was expecting an advisory or two. But it came back with no advisories at all, not even for corrosion (ha!)

Ironically it developed a knocking noise from the front right only the day after the MOT as the bushes on the lower control arm are dead.

I must’ve caught the tester on a good day!

There was a garage in Lincoln (now long gone) that had a very good reputation for getting a clean pass on the MOT. They were a little bit dearer than other places but on the plus side you didn’t have to take the car…

All the best for the re-test TOG

After a good night at Knockhill yesterday I spent a bit of time today cleaning all the brake gunk off the alloys, as well as removing the 1 billion bits of gravel that got all up in the under carriage.

I noticed the rear brakes binding so the poor fella is now on jackstands with the calipers off, need to take them apart and see if the caliper itself is causing the issue or just the piston being pitted but I won’t have time until Friday :frowning: .

I have also noticed the oil level is right on the L line which is odd? It was between F and L before I went to the track and afaik it’s not burning or leaking. Cold check and slightly warmer check show similar results. So I guess I’ll also be looking into that on Friday.

I removed the style bar and after removing all of the fittings, I needed the caps for the top of the seat belt. I checked the usual s/h mx5 places as well as ebay but managed to get them from MX5Parts brand new Original parts for £7.56 delivered. Cheaper than second hand!

Deal done on another one

More details in the next week or so, hopefully… :crossed_fingers:

And that will then complete the tetralogy! Although not quite in the logical order…

I drove it to Sheffield. Cracking early morning drive over Woodhead Pass. Then the lovely @rodders fitted a seat-lowering kit for me, performed one of his very special wheel alignments and sorted out a couple of other little bits. Thoroughly enjoyed the drive home across the Pennines with the car handling beautifully, and me able to see directly through the windscreen now rather than having to keep bending down a bit!

Obligatory photo of Roddisons garage. And thank you, Paul!
