What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Love the calipers. ■■■ that’s the sort of thing that only happens to me. Bet you feel sick. Hope you can get it repaired for a reasonable price :crossed_fingers:

that dent will come out quite easy as its just one punch and a uniform indentation round it :+1:

Checked how much moisture has been sucked out of the atmosphere in the cabin & boot during its winter layover. Considering my garage is relatively dry, it just shows that we live in a country that doesn’t have enough sunny weather. I quite fancy Portugal.

I’ve used these too I place them under the seats, in the boot I use one of those silica gel bags that you can reuse/ dry out in the microwave or on a radiator to good effect. Worthwhile in my opinion

Yeah it’s a no brainer for me, I put half a dozen of these in cabin / boot over winter also.

I remember years ago using a bowl of salt for the same effect. Hopefully it kept the interior from going manky. :+1:

Beware of these things leaking. I use a couple of them in the car over winter each year to great effect, but always stand them in another container. A couple of years ago I had one leak the collected liquid from the little point on the plastic underside, presumably where it came off the mold in manufacture.

Fortunately it was in the boot and was stood on a folded blanket and had all soaked into that. Also fortunately it wasn’t the one that I’d balanced on the centre console inside the car!

Maybe they don’t leak that often, but you wouldn’t know that until it’s started collecting water, and the collected fluid isn’t just water and would make a mess if leaked inside the car.

Yeah I prefer the bag type, I don’t think they soak up as much water but they’re pretty foolproof (and reusable)

Been a busy few days… got hte rear subframe totally derusted and primed, and started in on the main epoxy mastic coat. Also finished the underside of the car, just got to do the arches now. Did some of the underbody wax coat os the tank can go back in, but decided to give it a wee clean up first as it had a little surface rust. TBH, this is just getting carried away but there’s zero rust under the car now so it’d be a shame to have a manky heatshield. Had to redo a wee bit as I’m fitting an FPM Garage crash bar in the rear and I didn’t realise you have to drill holes and remove a stud for that! So that’s all sorted at least.

Tidied up the boot lid a bit more- prht so it’d rusted around the lights, I’ve decided just to derust it and cover over the holes with plasticard, it’s so thin I really don’t fancy welding it and I’d sooner not fill it with body filler dust so this’ll do. So it’s back in primer now and just needs a little final touch.

Also managed to straighen a bent suspension arm- I’ll need to keep a track of that, see if it stays straight. And got a load of paint on the arms and such, the oven is now full of 'em  What’s for dinner? Still got a few more to do, plus the diff and driveshafts so that’s still feeling a bit endless but I think really one big shift with the grinders and wire brushes and I can have that all ready for paint

Oh yeah, and did battle with the old wheel bearings, sort of thing that’s dead easy with the right tools but I managed to improvise.

Starting to feel like I might own a car again soon rather than just a pile of parts

You must have been very unlucky as I’ve used many of these things over the past couple of years and never had a problem.

Been looking for this particular type of hen’s tooth for a long while. Finally got hold of one and fitted this morning.

ND had it’s 6th year service, the oil/filter; air filter; brake fluid one. Only on 15.7K miles.
Fair play, I asked nicely and they knocked £52 off when it came time to pay :grinning:

Saw what a chum had done to hold his charger lead and copied his idea. :face_with_peeking_eye:
It’s sometimes the simple things in life……

Forgive my ignorance (I am new here) but what is PHRT?

Done my first mod. Fitted a stubby aerial. Hope the Sat Nav still works.

Power Retractable Hard Top

I’m pretty sure that the external aerial is only for FM/DAB, but I may be wrong. I changed the original aerial for a stubby on my ND RF and I’ve never noticed any change at all in radio reception.
