Having updated the firmware on my 2016 ND’s system I fitted an updated maps SD for the navigation system. I am now no longer driving across fields!

After watching videos on YouTube I replaced the driver’s side door handle as the old one had flaky paint. Unfortunately, I did not know about the tamper-proof panel over the door lock which gave me no end of grief. That is one part that is not going back on!

What have I done to my MX-5 today ? Well, actually nothing - it sailed through the MoT with no advisories, and so I’m pleased as punch. Not bad for a 16-year-old car !!! Happy Days !!!

Given the interior a fettle after getting the car back from having more vinyl work done. Followed the outside stripe theme into the cabin🙂

Just a bit of fun in the cabin…ebay from China (of course) £2.25 inc delivery

A year since mine had a Dinitrol underseal, so drove it up to Oldham for an annual “underseal check” at https://www.dukestreetgarageoldham.com/

They found a small handful of spots that needed a touch-up (and kindly invited me to take a look from underneath too). So I mooched up the road to a nearby chippy while they did 20 minutes of touch-up, ready to keep the car safe through the winter.

Installed the rollback firmware update on my Mazda/ Alpine headunit in my 2015 Sport Venture, I also replaced the stock speakers with some Alpine 7x5s which along with the firmware change has transformed the sound.

Im even considering installing an active sub for a bit more oomph.

I alos booked my car in for a full underseal at a local garage in Newcastle upon Tyne.

After previous shenanigans over diff and gearbox oil, I found out that a friend of mine has a garage with a pit - and was happy for me to use it! So armed with an array of tools and bottles, I trundled over there this afternoon.
Thankfully, the plugs all came out without any drama - fill plugs first! - and it got Liqui Moly GL5 in the diff and Castrol Transmax GL4 in the gearbox.
With new crush washers and 35ft-lb on the drain plugs and diff fill plug, the gearbox fill got a wrap of PTFE tape and 25ft-lb before cleaning up with some brake clean and a final go around with the torque wrench to double-check everything.
The old oils were pretty similar - very dark, some sediment, and a bit of fuzzy stuff on the plugs but nothing that worried me. This is 52.5k miles

The pit made actually doing the work light-years easier than rolling around on my back would have been. Oils were transferred in with a giant syringe - again, a very necessary tool.
So, what’s the verdict? So far, gear changes feel slicker and better, but I’ll need to drive it some more for a full assessment. Overall, it needed doing and I’m glad I did it.
As an aside, my mate is a classic Mini man from way back - but after taking him for a short run after everything was buttoned up I may have made another MX-5 convert

Thank you, I can only take credit for the design idea which was taken from the three colours on the 20AE badge.
The stripes on the in and outside, the black bonnet bulge and the 496 (the number of my car) on the wing was done by Natasha at Vinyl Destination

DRL Harness fitted, just in time for the dark weather

Dropped my second set of wheels at the garage today, for some All Season rubber to be fitted. Kumho Solus 4S HA32.

Will swap the wheels over at a convenient point this month, to coincide with a bit of cleaning/detailing/maintenance. Hopefully before the first cold snap appears :crossed_fingers:t3:
