Ooooo, notes welcome. I’m yet to be a-leaping.
Heat shield is for the alternator.
Picked up my refurbed winter wheels. I bought a second-hand set last winter, but they were in need of a bit of love. So had them refurbed (thanks for the recommendation, @Wardy5 ), and had them done in black while I was at it!
Next job: Clean them off, and get some ceramic coating on them
Hi
I have the same manifold but is the noise from the back box ok?
I do a lot of long distance holidays and wouldn’t want a lot more noise.
Chris
Its very “bassey” sounding in a good way. With the roof up, the noise level is not much different. With it down you are certainly much more aware of it. Cruising in 6th, it seems to almost disappear! I cant figure it out.
I suspect a catted manifold would tame it quite well.
Ding dong…very nice
Finished the setup of the front suspension and steering ready for the first trackday of the year. Big thank you to Vincent at VMW in Stradbroke for the excellent 4 wheel geometry setup .
Cleaned the MAF sensor with some stuff from Liqui-Moly and pleased to report a 0.1 decrease in MPG, now getting 33.5 instead of 33.6 - well worth it
Have some throttle body cleaner to use and hopefully that’ll improve the MPG a bit but waiting on gasket before I do it.
4 new Kumho PS72 in 215/45r17 91YXL fitted which replaced the horribly balanced CrossClimate2’s. The PS72 from Camskill were cheaper than PS71 available elsewhere - few reviews on them but supposedly a replacement for the PS71. Initial thoughts are much better feel and compliance than the CC2’s (unsurprisingly).
Will post up a pic once the wheel refurb has been done.
A sumpful of Magnatec, some LEDs that light up the road better than the sun.
And fixed the A/C… which only died because of the wrong kind of o-ring
Had the oils in the gearbox and rear diff replaced (40000 miles) fitted a RX8 wiper for the variable wiper mode only had the car about 4 months
More over the last few days, but replaced the front right lower suspension arm. Now onto the left…which is being even more awkward as the front bush bolt won’t come out like the other side. Time to get the grinder out…
Finished a 3 day jet off, dry off, wire brush and rust treat of everything underside rear. Front now up in the air ready to start under there.
Nothing too bad, just a bit of surface rust on suspension parts. MOT guy threatened an advisory this year - cob webs under the rear bumper .
Plan to coat everything with Lanoguard on completion, which I’m aware isn’t the most robust of coatings but as ours is a garaged, fair weather car that stays tucked up over winter should achieve the results I’m after, and easy to top up as and when required.
Must say, I think I’d have preferred to have been driving in the sunshine than crawling underneath, but duty calls.
If you don’t look after it then you won’t be driving it in the sunshine!
Gave the throttle body a clean this evening with some Holts stuff. Went round the rubbers on the doors and roof with Gummipfledge, gave the interior plastic trim a clean and wipe down a mix of CarPro PERL then did the leather bits with some Autoglym Leather Cleaner and Balm.
Before and after of the throttle body:
I did a few things to change up my driving position…

Quite a difference after cleaning, looks fairly gummed up beforehand
Dropped the rear subframe out and started taking all the control arms etc off in order to get them cleaned up, repainted and fitted to the new subframe I’ve got.
When I got the old one out I discovered just how rotten it was and how much it’d been bodged by someone else, it was full of cardboard, body filler and a few thick layers of underseal to disguise it. How anyone could do something like that and then sell the car in good conscience is beyond me.
I’ve also discovered that the sills need welding and the rear brake discs are shot so that’s more work/expense I’ve got ahead of me.
Still it’ll be worth it when it’s finished.
Apparently it hasn’t proved as popular and he’s only had two callers interested, but no takers. He’s dropped the price by a grand and still no interest. I think the Skuzzle stage 1 mods are putting people off as maybe they think it’s been raked or track day outings, which is not the case. He may put it on Autotrader next to gain a wider audience.
