TBH I’m not sure it makes that much of a difference but I’ve literally only driven the car to the shops and back since I’ve fitted it. Once I get a decent motorway/country road blast I’ll be able to answer if it’s worth it or not.
For now it looks a bit better and since it’s made from carpet I’m planning to use velcro to attach stuff like my warning triangle and a few other lightweight bits and bobs to it so they’re out the way but always easily accessible.
Picked up my car from the garage today. He changed the engine, gearbox and diff oils including flushing. Checked over the suspension and drive etc. Sprayed another two coats of Lanoguard over the complete underside. Said the car was absolutely solid. Cost me £370 all in. I can now go on holiday with confidence.
3 things over the past few days.
Sorted a speaker issue: No Audio from Speakers, ND1 non-Bose [solution]
Once that was sorted, I went ahead and fitted an upgraded USB-C Android Auto/Apple Carplay module - thanks to @BlueAgave for the inspiration! And with most of the interior out for that, I fitted some Alcantara gear and handbrake gaitors.
Can I ask what does the module change do for the ND1, does it bring apple carplay/android auto to the infortainment screen?
Yes it does and the usb-c version provides faster charging, but first you have to update the infotainment firmware to enable it. Worth updating the firmware anyway even if you don’t install carplay/Android Auto, pm me for the update.
Running-in period over, oil change and general check-up completed by BBR GTI. Now I can unleash all 275 horses and what fun it was returning back from Brackley.
I was watching a YouTube video today which was informative about installing Apple CarPlay. It all looked a bit to technical for an old bloke like me.being a 2016 nd i thought nothing would be pre installed or already updated.
Then I noticed the small phone symbol next to the usb socket, then checking the installation and found it was 7. Connected my iPhone and hey presto,Apple CarPlay! Result.
Result! Someone kind had already done the work for you
Are we allowed to take bets on how fast you get pulled by the rozzers for your plate ?
six points sir and go to jail naughty boy …!
Dont waste yer money, I’m legal don’t ya know!
An expensive but satisfying day yesterday. I collected my car from Vincent’s Motorworks, where it had been serviced and Dinitrolled. They had also fitted new Gravity Performance top strut braces front and rear (with carpet neatly trimmed by Monty in the boot), an IL Superlight lower front brace and most importantly (it turned out) Vinnie’s secret recipe alignment. Despite my previous alignment being carried out by BBR I was never happy with the steering feel. Too light and too vague straight ahead. It’s now got lots more weight and bite - to the point that I’ve almost got to re-learn the car. I guess the new braces have contributed a bit, and the car feels generally stiffer.
The main reason for replacing the front strut brace was to be able to adjust the rebound on my Koni suspension. I’ve now dialled it back to full soft for my 2500 mile road trip in two weeks time, which I think I’m going to appreciate. Still feels very controlled and not bouncy, but a bit easier on my old bones.
Put some brand new number plates on. I was surprised at what a difference they made. Also ordered a stubby aerial.
‘I was surprised at what a difference they made’
It has always impressed me how different things can affect the handling and scuttle shake on these cars!!!
As far as I can tell technically they’re legal, they might not be to everyone’s taste and might result in a raised eyebrow from the coppers but as long as the spacing’s correct and they’ve got the relivent info on them they’re legal
I’m on the fence regarding stubby aerials. I like the look of them but I also like the original so can’t make up my mind.
I know what you mean. When I’ve put the stubby on I’ll be able to decide which I prefer. For only a tenner it’s worth having the option. I’m leaning toward the stubby at the moment though.
