These GPS speedos are under a tenner and work really well. If you look around both MPH and km/h versions are available. If you have an MPH only speedo then one of them in km.h would be an easy fix for a European trip.
I got a digital speedo off Ali Express that is switchable between kmh & mph. Has a compass and a few other features too
I also managed to flatten the batteryā:open_mouth:
Messing with electrical gizmosš
Easily done Mick, when on the ND tinkering journey!
Itās on charge now, good job I donāt want to drive out in it today.
Maybe you can help if youāve done the mod, install the AliExpress module for android auto/carplay?
Iām on android auto, or rather trying to be.
Weāve just recently upgraded our Motorola phones to one that have android 15 out previous phones had android 13.
Iāve had the module working once on my new phone, briefly that is now it wonāt work. Connected my older phone and that works perfectly straight off.
Both phones hook up to my Skoda infortainment screen too without effort for android auto.
This module for the Mazda is wired BTW, although the blurb on the listing suggests itās wireless, it isnāt but thatās no matter, I canāt get it to work with my newer phone.
Apart from put a hammer through it (I might send it back thoughš®) Iāve tried everything in the settings known to man, it wonāt have it.
Which USB cable are you using to connect with Mick? Have you tried another one - perhaps the one that works in the Skoda?
Some phones brands connecting to the hubs are known to be quite picky about the cable spec/quality.
The Skoda screen is wireless so never have to use a cable, only when it needs a charge.
I bought supposedly 2 good cables usb c to usb c for use in both cars and I also use a usb to usb c they came with the phones for charging and data transfer so should work.
Thatās the thing, I can probably buy another cable, any suggestions both usb and usb c connections?
Iām almost convincing myself itās a compatibility thing with android 15 version and the module.
I use a UGreen USB-C to USB-C cable with a Google Pixel and my module:
Iād test your phone with a known good cable in the Skoda, just to try and rule that out.
I give it a go in the Skodaš
This is what I have, also from Amazon 60w too.
Thanks for your helpš
Got the very same cable arrived today from Amazon, still no joy, so I given up.
No problem I think with the module as it works on my older phone, unless of course thereās a compatibility issue with android 15.
For now Iām going to tether the two phones for a data connection in the car. I might get fed up with this and just buy something else to get connectedš¤
Possibly a faulty module then? If I was a bit nearer Iād come and test with my phone and cable!
As Iām on Android 15 with a Pixel, quite possibly with the same type AliExpress module as you tooā¦
Family/friend/neighbour with another Android phone you could plug in? Just to rule your phone either in or out?
My wife has the exact same phone, I bought them together, that doesnāt work with the module either.
Android 13 Motorola g62 connects fine, android 15 Motorola g85 (new) x 2 wonāt connect with the module.
Bluetooth connects ok, WiFi connection ok too, it just wonāt recognise android auto and highlight it on the Mazda screen.
It does show Carplay/android auto options in the menu on screen but it doesnāt allow you to scroll to select them. Tried every option known in the settings on the phone and in car screen, no go, different cables, nothing.
I might spend an hour this weekend reinstating the original module and returning the possible duff one. It could be a duff port on the module, both USB ports only charge the phoneā¦edit skip that bit, the port works with the older phone.
Nice job! How did you manage the rust on the door guides?
Honestly, I just changed them for new. They were advertised for cheap on here recently so I grabbed them.
Glad I did. The rust on the lower 14mm retaining area was pretty shot. You can see the rust starting to become endemic on the fitting holding the bolt secure to the guide here:
I got mine to work by using the supplied usb to usb-c cable supplied with my phone using the supplied with my module anyway a usb to usb-c adapter.
Is it a difficult job to replace the door guide as mine desperately needs doing?
It wasnāt really that complex, but quite time consuming. Took maybe 4 hours. Although I expect the passenger side will be 3 or less now I know what Iām doing.
I followed @larkottery 's guide below to get to the point where I could remove the windows and guide.
Iāve got an array of cables here (5) and an adapter that came with the module, all tried and failed to make android auto appear on the screen.
As mentioned my android 13 version phone works a treat, android 15 phone doesnāt.
Conclusion I suspect (no expert btw) the Mazda connect system in the ND1 isnāt capable of connecting with a Motorola phone on android 15 even though Iāve updated itās firmware to the last known available update.
Iām very grateful to those that have had an input on this either on the forum or by private messages, itās much appreciated.
This may be a red herring but I think there are two speeds for local wi-fi and your phone has to be on the same one as the dongle. That was the issue with my old phone that would not connect. Where you change or look to see what your phone is set to is beyond my pay grade but it may be worth investigation.
