After getting Moxie, early August, I totally forgot about pulling in the wing mirrors, I got used to having a button to fold them in on the IQ and the CHR. That added some nice scratches there but thankfully, I’ve done good so far with repairing that damage.
Sorry hear about the youth using Bullit as a rolling table.
I hear you………’getting used to a different vehicle’
I’d been driving a mature 1.4 Renault Clio for years when I purchased Bullit 1.8 in 2007 from Car Craft, Leeds
Sold my house in West Yorkshire to move in as full time carer to late father in Whitby. Donated the Clio to ex neighbour for daughter learning to drive providing she collect the car from Car Craft
So having dispatched removal men, picked up Bullit in rush hour traffic and noticed there was only a quarter of a tank
Drove to nearest petrol station……it was a ‘drive through’ which I had never used before
Hop out to petrol up…….yep you’ve guessed……..who knew you had to lift the arm rest to find the petrol release cap……….not numpty here
Fortunately a gentleman came to my aid …..drivers in the queue behind me were fuming
Then there was the drive across the North York Moors in the dark ……..Clio and I knew the route with our eyes closed
But Bullit [who’d I’d just test driven for 10 minutes in the Car Craft car park] didn’t
Don’t know what was more embarrassing ……not knowing how to open the petrol cap or me calling for my late mother ‘Mummy, mummy !’ as I drove over the moors
Regarding the petrol release, before I finally paid for Moxie, the guys at the garage told me about an elderly guy who came in, he wanted the car, took it for a spin (He asked for work to be done - exhaust I believe). On the way back, he stopped off to put some fuel back in. He spent 20 mins trying to find the petrol release.
He didn’t want the car after that!
I do suspect previous owners have had the same problem as I can see the petrol cap cover is a bit more recessed where they may have been pushing it in to get it to release! I want to fix it as it’s not flush with the body.
However, I admitted to the wife that all the work I’m doing, I started to feel some regret as I’m spending a lot more time in the garage even during my work day as I work from home, stealing 15 minutes here and there; trying my best as a novice to repair all the things that I feel I can do.
The stone chips is the one thing I’m struggling to get perfect. I had one product who’s fadeout liquid is so strong I think I might have over applied it to remove some of the paint I used to fill a chip, I have a light blue area now that is really bugging me, I only hope it’s the lacquer I’ve removed and I can fix it.
The one that I used and will avoid from now on is https://scratchrepaircar.co.uk/ The presentation of the order, the lack of clear instructions and the fact the polish was leaking and some of the kit had silver paint on them that was still wet!
You have to like a challenge when you own an MX-5 and I admire your perseverance and ‘doing the jobs you can try and do yourself’
I do too but now as a cream crackered old lady I find more and more that I have to pay folk to do jobs for me which I find frustrating as my ‘conscious mind’ says ‘come on, you used to do tasks like this’……then me body and brain kick in and say ‘who are you kidding missus!’
Hence, saving me pennies since 2019 for Bullit respray
Nothing better though than working on the 5 ……interspersed with work of course
Although when you’ve become cream crackered every task seems like work
My back is feeling as you say Cream Crackered from being hunched over the bonnet for hours. I want to get the rust in the driver side arches fixed, the cheaper option might be to buy the arches and get them sprayed rather than going for fix.
I need to wait though, the wife wants a winter holiday
■■■■■■, didn’t know i created a new forum thread, i thought i switched to a pm post
Booked scuff repair from previous owner for next Tuesday via Axioma. £185 to do this. I was expecting more, however, i did ask about getting the lacquer on the bonnet repaired, sadly they didn’t quote me for that, I’ll ask when they come though.
It was just my sense of humour re ‘*** the corrosion’
My non specialist mechanic has witnessed me bringing Bullit back from neglect [My Bad…Life, the Universe & Everything getting in the way] for several years
A better term would be ‘Actions speak louder than words’
Because even though I’ve finally made the back garden ‘dawg secure’ after my rescue cat passed away. I haven’t even started on the property itself…transition from ‘cat’ to ‘dog’ [It’s too small for both]…Let alone the research needed to find the right Cocker Spaniel…because at my age it will be my last dog
Whereas, now Bullit passed her MOT and I’ve saved enough pennies …it’s just a question of a drive out to the bodyshop for assessment
It’s frustrating when you’re cream crackered and home alone with only one pair of hands [drat…knew there was a reason I should have had offsprings…I mean couldn’t have grand offsprings advising me re modern tech for starters]
Booked it in for an annual visit to the undersealing specialists. I had the car (NC) undersealed two years ago now, and they do an annual “check and touch-up” service to make sure everything is still OK underneath. Good to stay on top of this stuff!
Ordered two Bosch Aerotwin wipers from GSF. Used the Registration check to make sure. They arrived today, went to fit. Not supported, as they are AP18U.
I fired off a ranty email informing them that their web tool is useless as it incorrectly stated they will fit.
