Time too fit a rubber bump stop maybe…..![]()
Years ago this house had an unheated garage with an asbestos dripping roof, fortunately it also had electricity.
My beautiful little Smart and Brown lathe, similar body to this one but with all its paint and more accessories including 3-jaw and 4-jaw chucks, began to rust within days of putting it in there!
Aaarrggh!
A friend suggested a solution that actually worked. I lit a 10Watt cooker bulb inside the body of the lathe and draped a plasticised canvas groundsheet over the top to shield it from the drips and drafts.
Being only a degree or so warmer than the rest of the garage the S&B was always bone dry. The condensation went to the other colder inside surfaces, roof and windows.
After we built an extension to the house including a proper garage, dry and heated, the old one was knocked down and the garden shed and fish pond live there instead.
Centring a larger bulb or very small heater under a car might also work, but only if the garage roof is insulated and drip-free.
The recent below zero temperatures followed by a sudden increase to 12 plus degrees is about the worst possible combination for a covered car. It’s a bit like moisture forming on a glass of cold beer! The cold metal will be in contact with warm air with restricted ventilation. I would suggest anyone with a covered car should remove the cover and allow it to ventilate. I’ve also started leaving condensation trapping granules inside the car.
So easily done and I feel your pain. Many years ago i bought a brand new Golf Gti. 3 weeks after getting it i had a small issue so took it back to the dealer. When I left went to drive the car away and didn’t notice the parking barrier on my near side. I turned straight in to it and the car needed a new rear wing and door. I was absolutely mortified! Once you get it repaired though you’ll be fine and it’s a lesson learnt.
Gave Moxie a quick wash.
Then spent time checking to see where i can get Michelin Cross Climate 2’s as I want to replace the Dunlop summer tyres before I do a long drive to Norwich in December.
Can I find anyone stocking them? Not a chance.! Trying to find decent 205/50 R16 tyres is frustrating as the choice is very limited ![]()
Just checked mine and it’s fine so far. Generally my garage is very dry. I bought a 12 ft square dust sheet from Screwfix which is very soft and breathable. The only issue is that it left lots of fluff on the soft top so I’ve now covered that with a cotton duvet cover before laying the dust sheet over it. I think this car is now more cosy in bed than I am!! ![]()
I’m doing a lot of cleaning, rubbing down and spraying bits and pieces of my bike at the moment so it keeps the muck off.
I’m thinking of removing the dust sheets on the car and instead suspending a large sheet above it in the thought that it will stop the dusty bits falling directly onto it and let air circulate underneath it. Think garage gazebo ![]()
I installed some extra high level ventilation round the facias last year which generally keeps it aired out and dry, but still doesn’t cope well with the extreme temp swings.
New Likewise shifter in. Really pleased with it, and since it’s modular I could change bits later if I wanted.
Interior really starting together now ![]()
I found the same. For AllSeasons on my old NC2 I ended up running 205/55/16 and went for Goodyear Vector Gen-3s. Worked well.
This time on the ND, I went for Kumho Solus 4S and found them in 205/50/16. I bought these at the end of Sept, as stock tends to disappear more quickly as you get into the winter season.
Take a look on Blackcircles.
How are you finding the Kumho’s? They were recommended to me this morning. I’m leaning towards these as I read more about them.
They work well, I’m pleased with them and I’d buy them again. I’m on my 2nd season with them on the ND.
Not as much directness on turn in compared to my summer Yokos, but I tend to drive the car differently during the autumn and winter anyway. And that was the same with the Vectors; it’s just an All season characteristic.
I couldn’t make the last Chocks Away meet last week, but if you to meet up and have a look at them, drop me a message.
Hi,no it’s mine had it for 13 yrs
Does this do the same as the smartop ?,I see much cheaper !
I believe so. It’s been great so far ![]()
Something to think about !
Since I got the car I’ve noticed the paints was a little gritty
Therefore I washed, Tardis, and used Bilt Hamber Iron fall out remover last weekend, hard to see the purple on the dark blue, but even after this process it still felt gritty. So I used a Soft Autofinesse claybar so I didn’t marr the paint, and its a very impressive soft bar.
This weekend I DA polished with Sonax 04-06 and put it on a ctek trickle charger.
Hopefully next weekend I will use a Sonax sealant and call it a day. To me that’s a life time worth of detailing, and something I don’t really enjoy but it needed to be done and should only need minor maintenance going forward. ![]()
I really enjoy detailing, i think the usually excellent result is worth the often long hours spent. ![]()
Looks great, it’s hard work. I’m doing one panel at a time, so I don’t get fed up and rush it.
I too used to get a lot of water in the boot of my NC. Turned out it was getting in around the centre brake light - fixed it with this - Captain Tolley’s Creeping Crack Cure 60ml leak crack sealer from manufacturer 744093001000 | eBay UK
how did you re-chrome the bumper? I’m thinking of doing that myself… Thanks!
