What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

To my eyes it looks like those arch lips have been treated for rusting before. I did mine a while back now on a previous NC, very minor bubbling. Stripped back, primed and a top coat finishes then lacquer.

Pic shows, you can hardly see the joint where I masked off.

Later NC’s (mine) had the active bonnet system.

I found these next to the driver rear wheel :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: looks like brake pads to me. I’ve got the tools but haven’t replaced pads before, i guess i may have to do the discs as well.

This could be my job tomorrow

I’ve got minor bubbling on mine how did you strip it back?

With a Dremel with those small circular abrasive bits, gets it back to bare metal.

Finally got round to removing my winter wheels and scrubbing underneath.

Very happy with how the underside held up after spending far too many hours last year preserving & protecting the chassis and suspension components. Coilovers still look like new under their “socks”.

4” flapper disc , as it’s been mentioned go all the way back to clean metal or what’s left of it .

Fitted genuine cam cover gasket, cam sensor Oring ,4 new tyres as advised on m.ot, apart from that passed with flying colours, new blueprint clutch slave cylinder and fluid flush/change, New stick on replacement o/s mirror glass that’s too big so needs another, new alarm sounder box with battery back up, new air filter, proper good wash and ceramic coating, new smaller flat bottom steering wheel yet to fit as struggling to get in and out, due to getting on a bit now and arthritis in hips, still a few service type bits to do but fortunately no body work or welding as rust free :+1: I purchased this in 2008 and she’s only done 500 miles since, it’s been dry stored in heated workshop all of it’s life since owning it, full gates cam belt kit fitted 3 years ago, total milage is 101000 km, 1.8 eunos roadster Japanese import hence no rust. Looking forward to actually running it this year and hopefully get the new mohair hood down as well.

Started with investigating sticking front brake.

Found caliper in bad state, rear of disc scored, bolts holding discount to hub had been butchered.

So replaced:

Hub, back plate, caliper, disc, pads, all bolts.

While it was stripped removed arch liner, checked on condition of car behind it, pleased with it. The car has been previously treated at a lanoguard centre.

Wire brushed off loose areas and treat with Bilt-Hamber. When that was dry sprayed with lanoguard.

Very happy with result.

Need to get the passenger side done, its had a caliper replaced quite recently so its just getting disc and pads done.

Don’t have time to do full job as heading to do NC500 in a few weeks.

Another little job ticked off

Well, I tried and failed to change the brake pads, the lower guide pin on the rear driver side brakes is seized, I did use a heat gun to loosen it but I would have been there for ages, i didnt want to try and force it as the spanner was starting to slip.

After several months waiting for decent weather I finally fitted the set of ‘new to me’ fog lights.

Finally got around to installing the alloy pedal set that I found on ebay months ago, it’s a small touch but I really like how they look. The brake and clutch were a PITA to fit, gave up a couple of times before I was finally able to get them on:

Thought I’d change the air filter, oil filter and oil today. It hasn’t been serviced for over a year and best part of 10k miles. Not sure who fitted the last oil filter, but it was so tight, I had to go out and get a different oil filter removal tool to remove it. Also, what a stupid place for it! What should be a quick, simple task, was a little mission! Even the air filter was a little bit tricky to get the new one in.

Ultimately, I got it sorted, and made sure only to hand-tighten that oil filter. I did read a tip on here somewhere about using the bottom half of a plastic two-pint milk bottle around the oil filter, just before it comes off, catches a lot of oil. It worked a treat, so thanks to whoever suggested that, as it meant minimal oil spillage on the crossmember.

Sorry, previous post duplicated by mistake but now deleted!

Received new Richbrook half cover. Seems to fit much snugger than my previous cover. Held pretty firmly in the boot, front and rear door jambs, Velcro straps round mirrors and has magnets (with soft velvety backing) along the doors and front and rear wings. Handy zipper on driver’s side gives access to the car without having to partly remove the cover is a bonus. I’ll see how this performs.

Probably sounded epic

Couple of recent Mods and very pleased with them.. after much deliberation painted the callipers.. went for a subtle burnt bronze with a gold fleck.. wasn’t sure how it’d look but works really well against the alloys and Copper Red:

2nd mod.. Maxton Design skirts.. coded.. flush up against the front mud guards with a thin seal to match the front lip.. very pleased with them.

Last mod.. had the old chrome finish on my cobalt stripped back and converted to anthracite satin finish..

Leaves me Just with contemplating what rear diffuser to consider, to complement the Bofi Lip and new skirts..
