I got the lower seized bolt out from the rear brake (driver side). The outer pad came out and this is what it looked like. I didn’t expect it to look like this as I’ve only owned the car since August.
Fitted new drop links to front and rear, going with Febi this time instead of Blueprint. Nuts came off without too much grief. Replaced the Apec discs and pads for a Mintex combo. The Mintex pads slid right in where the Apec needed some grinding of the ears. In any case I used a bore brush and wire wheel on the drill to clean up the calipers, fitting new boots and sliders. I’d done the discs, pads, sliders and drop links about a year ago but I wasn’t happy with the Apec parts, and the right rear drop link had a bit of a clunk over bumps. Painted the calipers black since I was putting this job off for far too long trying to decide on a colour, so I just used Hammerite Smooth Black and was done with it. Looks good with new painted backing shields against the silver wheels I think. Initial impressions are the Mintex combo are much better than the Apec they replaced, both in fitment and performance. Longest part of the job was getting the new boots on the sliders and carriers.
Gave it a wash using Bilt Hamber stuff, then clayed using one of those mitt things from Farecla and some ONR for lubrication. Carpro Eraser for a wipe down before finishing off the paint with Fusso Coat and glass using Glaco, both from Soft99. I used a wheel ceramic from AutoFinesse last year and it’s lasted well but sadly I don’t think they sell it anymore.
Changed out the gear lever selector limiter plate. As you can see the old one was fairly worn. It was a good excuse to top up the turret & grease me shaft… ooh errr missus. Noticeable improvement selecting 1st,2nd.
Today: Removed the passenger rear side brakes. These pads had plenty of life in them, they were a pain in the backside to remove due to the amount of crud on them compared to the driver side. Very uneven wear on those ones
Next step is to clean up the caliper, bolts then take out the old slider pins and replace them.
Working well thanks. Still need to do a bit of tweaking and get an alignment, but I’ve got compliance where I wanted it.
I’m as pleased with them as I was when I ran them in my old NC2. And I was a bit apprehensive with the ND as I was pretty pleased with the OEM setup, so didn’t want to fall into the camp of modifying something ‘just for the sake of it’.
My ND, late 2022 vintage , just being MOT’d. First chance to have a good look underneath. It looks pretty good (as it should only being 3 1/2). I must get round to some anti rust treatment methinks .
