Another couple of little jobs done
Had my first ever MX-5 meetup!![]()
‘‘tech day’’ in the Grampian area.
i had the worlds fastest in-air inspection… car was too low for the lifting arms lol. but, at least she looked clean
and when i got home - new toy arrived! 360 camera to get some driving videos (for the alps in a few weeks). time to go testing it out ![]()
Oh Im going to love this!!! Proper quality audio on this camera! Even holds up well with the roof down.
today I finally got some sound clips I wanted from my car
shame didnt make it before today’s meet. But hey…
Looking forward to making some (hopefully decent) MX-5 content
What tyres are you running ? They look interesting
Sounds beautiful-what have you fitted ? Header, cams , midsection ? Silencer?
Just ‘usual stuff’ for the ND. Goodyear eagle asymmetric 6. Tyre reviews dot com have these neck and neck with pilot sports in almost every test. Beat everything else on the market. 215/45/17
The only thing oem in the airflow path are the ND1 piston crowns
. It’s alll listed and pictures in my build thread ‘readers rides’ section.
Custom intake 3D printed by Dmarino

Nice work - thrilling sound
Got round to giving the sound system a much needed upgrade. Drivers door speaker had disintegrated and found that the tweeters had also died at some point in their life.
Doors got some Pioneer 6x8s and replaced the 4x 3.5 inch speakers with some Pyle speakers off Amazon.
All fitted and sounding fantastic now.
Gave the boat a much needed spring clean
But somehow managed to loose the tow point cover over winter
Had it’s annual service in Mazda. Was paranoid as even though we’re in a nice weather period (South), today forecast light rain/drizzle. Me not wanting to get the soft top or undercarriage wet didn’t want that. When I booked it in, last Friday I think, it was forecast wall to wall sunshine, big fat sun. Thankfully it totally held off.
A nice OCD ditty is that this service was exactly a calendar year since the last, and tomorrow, I’m getting the up! gti’s PS5 tyres rotated..one year to the date too since fitting
Such an exciting life.
Finished fitting the front brake pads to Moxie. I had a little trouble getting the inside pad on the passenger side out.
I noticed the pads did not have wear indicators either! I can see why they didn’t fit them as they are fiddly as hell to put on. I managed to fit one but missed the notes that it should be on the inside pad and not the outside ![]()
I will probably have to revisit the rear pads and recheck the bolts to make sure they are good after going on the Sunday C&NW drive through Wales.
Apart from that, I’m happy I did it, even the wife commented that I’m looking proud with myself.
A collection of front and rear guide bolts. The ones on the right are from the front, yep, they came out quite dirty!
7 weeks since a failed MOT , busy garage and lack of available parts slowed the repair, much sadness as nothing to drive I finally picked my car up today, new rear subframe and all arms replaced, might have got some whiteline ARB’s fitted too.
Total joy to drive, lets hope the sun keeps shining
Not today, but in fact yesterday…routine annual service and at the same time asked the guys to fit a new genuine Mazda coolant expansion tank. Just because mine was the original (2010), and I thought it might be prudent.
All this in preparation for a summer road trip in Europe.
Also reported an intermittent clutch pedal “squeak”- really only noticeable at low speed manoeuvres like driving the car into the garage carefully, letting clutch out slowly etc- unable to replicate fault, but applied grease on the slave cylinder push rod- hopefully sorted?
Also asked to review the state of my underseal (2021)- all good, but then being garaged and doing about 4000 miles/annum must be helpful.
Started some sound deadening in the boot. A combination of a decatted manifold, ILM free flowing exhaust & a superb tune up from Performance Link about a year ago sound great. However the decibels coming through the vehicle itself can be a little wearing on long journeys.
Definitely getting less road noise & that boominess at certain revs than before. With the roof down I can definitely hear the exhaust sound from the tips rather than through the car itself.
on a similar topic… ![]()
ive just had a ‘decibel eater’ turn up for my goodwin exhaust. i love how loud it is. but ive got 4,500 miles to do next week across europe. so grabbed this to help soften some ‘boring miles’ on the eardrums.
Good idea for the kind of distance you have planned.
I have used “a bung” similar to that for track days for a quite different car. Tbh it never occurred to use one for a daily driver. Performance hit is fairly negligible iirc. ![]()
this sort of design (without a tape measure to hand) i think reduces a 3" exit to about 2.75, maybe. but the whole pipework is 2.5 so cant see it really hurting. certainly if it did, its not a bend, kink, or forcing air through baffles.
but for me, it will be getting used for ‘commuting days’. only 1 bolt in and out, super easy.
