What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

It is a rip-off industry for certain.
I get 2 x specs with “fashion name” frames for £70.00 all in every year at our local “For Eyes”.
Excellent staff an service.
Same deal in town would easily be £250.00 plus.

Fitted a new battery.

What is the number of your 25th edition?

941

Hi AJS1, mine is number 864 :+1:t2:

Agreed, sunlight reflecting off the dash is a pain, which is why I don’t understand why all car manufacturers don’t cover them in Alcantara or similar. Why is it just supercars?

What’s that under the car in the first pic? Has something fell off? :joy:

ha ha hha , its what remains of a wheel chock that I ran over with my merc a while back :joy:

It was placed there to stop my trolley jack moving as I raised via the diff, safety first :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Agreed, words fail me when I see a car with light interior.

It’s an accident waiting to happen.

Am I being cynical if it suggests to me the manufacturer hopes to sell more replacements because they are being written off more frequently?

Our new Vextra had a light grey shiny plastic dash, nightmare. As soon as I got it home I immediately cut a piece of black baize to shape and stuck it in place.
At the first service the mechanic volunteered “I like the dash, it’s so much better”.
After twenty years it had faded somewhat, but the texture of the baize guaranteed no bright reflection.

Points that have put me off buying cars over the years:

  1. SUV shape.
  2. Proximity unlocking.
  3. Electric parking brake.
  4. Pale interior, especially dash top, but it can be modified.
  5. Tinted windows (OK our Mazda3 has them, but we’d been looking for a fortnight and it fitted SWMBO and I’ve added cameras).
  6. Lack of anti-rust treatment (I drove the new Mazda3 direct from the dealer to a Dinitrol undersealer/injector).
  7. Auto transmission.
  8. Inadequate adjustment on steering wheel and driver’s seat, but it can be modified.

I installed a lip on mine last night.
It’s a little warped from the box but a little heat or a wiggle will fix it.

Just had my wheels refurbished. Before and after. Not bad for £20 per wheel.

Where did you get them done?

City Wheel Refurbishment

1 Benacre Dr, Birmingham B5 5RF, £20 each wheel special deal. Takes about 5 working days. Not perfect as they were originally very corroded but from 1m look great.

Alloy Wheels 18" or Below
Full Chemical Strip
Shot Blasting
Sanding/Prep/Refurb Work
Full Powder Coat all Standard Colours Including Silver Sparkle and Ultra Gloss Black

this was the melted light snow shower on my roof. The 303 protection doesn’t normally look like this after rain but it does show how it seals pretty good after snow.

Thanks

That looks good, Mazda replaced my roof, so might get some of that.

Sold my Mk3 after 9 years of ownership and really pleased it’s gone to someone who will seemingly enjoy it as we did…Looking for a red Skyactiv now and gutted to have missed out on a beauty yesterday…

Took a few more bits off the rear end to gain access to boot underside and the rear subframe.
All in all not in bad nick although chassis rail legs will need slight attention (common I think)
No prize for guessing which two items were removed with the angle grinder :joy:

Under belly of boot, degreased, buffed and a dose of rust encapsulator applied.

Primed and ready for top coat and stone guard.

Similar process carried out on heat shield and anti roll bar.

ARB only 11mm diameter ? thats tiny, is this normal ?

Bonnet on Daisy (1993 Eunos) had watermarks and a “bloom” so got the mopper out and using Meguiars Compound followed by Meguiars Wax got it nice and shiny again. It’s hard to photograph the bloom but here is a “before” and “after” shot

Changed the plastic shift gate at the top of the shifter. The original was worn, had a piece that had worn away. Did it make any difference to the change, well the jury is out, I’ll find out on an extended drive?
Only been around the block, I don’t expect it’ll be a fix for the cold shifting (a bit notchy) between 1st & 2nd but at least it seems to have taken a little sideways slackness from the shifting.

First picture the worn one.
