What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Well, yesterday technically. Removed the cowls etc to access the cabin air intake area and cleared it of the one rogue leaf.
Ordered replacement boot & gaiter kit for the gear lever as mine was shot to bits.

Tried out my cops setup - failed. multimeter out

I fetched my very early (Jan ‘98) NB back from the body shop. The bodywork is remarkably good for a car of over 23 years of age but after five years in my ownership I’d found a fingernail sized piece of rust on the rear of the lower sill which pushed through into a small hole. There was some slight bubbling in a similar place at the rear of the passenger sill.

The car hasn’t had much use over the last two years (in fact we’d not renewed our club membership until a few months ago) and I’d mulled over the thought that if the car needed a lot of expensive welding I might have to sell it. I’d serviced the car and replaced the rear discs and pads with that in mind.

The chap who owns the body shop business (who I’ve dealt with many times before) had sucked his teeth and from his own experience of the type repeated the warning that we all know too well……what’s underneath an outer sill might be far, far worse, especially on a Mk2.

Thankfully it was good news. He told me that the inner sills are actually OK, now rust treated. The lower outer sills on both sides have been repaired to an excellent standard, using partial panels and the car is as good as new……you certainly can’t see the join!

Even better, as an existing customer, I got an exceptionally favourable price!

I think the car now needs driving……we’re keeping it!

That’s brilliant news Paul. I’m happy for you.
Now to enjoy the sunshine :+1:

I’ve fitted the smart window controller to my ND from mx5things.
So far, so good.
Its how Mazda ought to have designed it in the first place.
Now it opens the windows fully when I open the roof and closes them fully when I close the rook (even after my wife has absent-mindedly opened the passenger door at the end of the trip…)
And the windows open and close with a double tap of the key fob too! Just like any VW or Audi has done for years…

Did this last year, now and again it gets its wotsits in a twist and windows do their own thing! Weirdly, the passenger window seems to be powered all the time, probably OK for LHD cars.

Be aware demo-ing it a lot (fun to do) will run the battery down.

Never happy with the all black of my interior, I found a local Hydro Dipping company very near me & had the scratched transmission tunnel cover done to match the body colour.
Also 2 new Suede gaiters & a stick on Radio surround.

Replaced the gear lever upper & lower boots and the turret oil on my new-to-me NA…

Only downside is I now get a “popping” sound on some gear changes as the rubber moves. May need to re-seat it.

Finally fitted a battery tray on my NA, brightened up the interior with an orange strip and started to fit a silicone hose kit but decided to stop and order a Mishimoto radiator and fan shroud kit. She’s getting there slowly.

Replaced the NA speakers, something tells me the originals were past their best.

They don’t look that bad? A bit of a polish and good as new (not):nerd_face:

What did you replace with
