What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Result! and does look good. I worked at a Mazda dealership between 2006-2012 and the NB was still popular in Main Dealer stock…

Water pump, cam & crank seals, timing belt etc etc

Didn’t know the MX-5 was available in kit car form.

I should have got the airfix paints out

Washed it and put a copy of the Stones 40 Licks in the glove box, ready for a trip to The Mumbles this evening

Replaced the knackered delaminating wheel that has seemingly been on my MX5 for the past 24 years with a nice new Nardi Classic.

Wanted something that was close to original whilst being fairly nice to hold/use.

Annoyingly exhaled some vape just as I got in the car which ruined the picture somewhat!

Got the front and rear drop links as well as ARB bushes to do tomorrow providing the weather holds (and the bolts aren’t too stubborn).

First polish since purchase !
A good coat of Collinite No 476s.
Hope to go and get it dusty on the way to a pub lunch. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Looking good and trust me, the cleaner they are the quicker they get dusty…!
But a nice pub lunch should take your mind of that for a bit… Enjoy :grinning:

Colli 476 is wax not a polish.

A wax is as much a polish as a car is to a garden shed. Totally different things.

Sorry NDer, you are of course correct.
The stealer did a machine polish as part of the deal. I wanted some certainty as to what wax had been applied, hence the Collinite.

Thanks Ceramic.
Hopefully with a fresh WAX it will wash more easily :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I was looking at some anti static ‘fillers’ the other day. Has anyone used them ?

Finally got up the courage and tackled my leaky rocker cover gasket.

Did they do a decent job of the machine polish. Meaning have you looked at it from all sorts of angles in strong sunlight and seen if there is buffer trails?

It’s no where near as good as I had hoped, there are still some swirl marks when viewed under ultra violet. They also managed to ding the door so it is going back for a repair.
I will be doing a full ‘paint restoration’ myself next spring…or a wrap !

Yes, it takes skill to do machine polishing. Many ‘detailiers’ leave all sorts. A neighbour near me was having a Tucson detailed about a year ago. He’s stand offish and don’t like it that he’s not the only person who is ‘into’ car in the neighbourhood. Anyway, after the ‘detailer’ finished, in the sun the Tucson was covered in those ugly buffer trails. The amount of times I’ve seen them on ‘detailed’ cars is mad. A family relative had a repair via insurance. He asked me to go and check it over when ‘finished’ and I saw the buffer trails 20 yards away.

Renewed upper and lower gearshift boots, which were both perished.
