What have you done to your MX-5 today? (Part 2)

Yes I know precisely what you mean about “unseeing“ stone chips once they are there … etc, You end up not enjoying the car so much once it is damaged No matter how small etc, I’ve been there myself and felt the same after an accident I once had with my expensive pride and joy, ( showing off to my friends and come a cropper ) It’s a ‘ mind thing ‘ Because my car was repaired perfectly… But I could not get the fact that it had been damaged out of my mind… Best regards from Ray …

What Abarth model do you drive ? They do a lovely model that is vaguely similar to the shape of an MX5 But there I suppose the similarity ends …they do one called a spider ? Lovely looking car the 124 Abarth Spider Didn’t know that it has similarities with the MX5 brand… just read up on it on wiki . Ray…

A 595, been a great wee car so far, been reliable also, Mazda can’t keep up with up on the straights but better in the corners, have recently been thinking that might sell Mazda and just enjoy the 595 more.

Thanks for your update Andrew. Just been reading up on Abarth models on Wikipedia … Didn’t know they were affiliated with Mazda etc, Your little Abarth is lovely. I can see what you mean about having just the Abarth Why not indeed, Some of these little cars are the way to go with things becoming so crowded on the roads etc, Some are astonishingly nippy on acceleration too,
My friend has a 4.2 Ltr S Type -R supercharged ! and he cannot believe how often he Is shown a clean pair of heels by some of these little hot hatches… each time we meet he tells me of some of the cars he has been up against and lost the acceleration stakes, VW Golf and Honda S Type have both surprised him …

Swapped standard exhaust back box for a Larini one, kindly sold to me by one of our members. The improvement in both looks, but more importantly to me, sound, is outstanding.

MOT done today. A good pass for the mk1 (1992 Eunos), no advisories again, but emissions were very borderline!
I gave it a good hard run before the MOT, tried some cleaner in the weeks before but still very borderline, the MOT tester was very fair he passed it after a couple of attempts! I think a new catalyst is my next job and definitely before the next MOT.

Good idea Chris I think I will do it to my MX5 too after I’ve had a cup of tea, My mobile phone is so old it runs on coal and my daily drive has a metal coat hanger stuffed down a hole in the wing in the hope of getting a signal … But thanks for your informative posting Chris… After reading it I feel Qualified and Ready for an “I.T” job at Aldermaston … however I might not pass the exam. I’m dyslexic and colour blind … Not The best Health impediments to have in a nuclear bomb factory …

This week I’ve been mostly doing an oil change, put a blank on the sound tube under the bonnet, fitting some chrome wheel nuts and some black/chrome trim lights.

Took mine into the garage to have this fixed. For the price quoted I think he must be fabricating the new sections from gold bullion!!

Oh well, I am doing my bit to save another one from the scrap yard.

Just back from having the seats retrimmed by Larry Piper of Sparkford (Somerset). Leather and Alcantara, expensive but really lovely.

WOW……beautiful. Your a$$ is very lucky.

Just got our NA back from the garage after having shiny new Pedders suspension fitted on all four corners. What a difference. Big shout out to Pedders who delivered it for free in less than 24hours and to the Byres Road Garage in Glasgow for fitting it as well as doing some other jobs us.

Getting there with a boot spoiler that took far too long. Started off with trying to repair a spot of damge to the boot lid caused by a previous spoiler, to ending up repainting the entire boot lid.

Spare bootlid on

So far 2400 grit wet sand to take roughness off the lacquer. It still looks awful, but the Montego Blue colour is starting to come through.

Your seats look smashing. Nice one :+1:

I also had Pedders fitted. Very pleased.

Finally got round to removing the stripe that I was never fond of, getting the adhesive off was a right nightmare!

Before:

After:

Fairly happy with how it turned out, found a couple of spots of very thin paint so decided against polishing. Think a respray of the bonnet / boot lid is going to be on the cards sooner or later!

Pity there is a bit of a difference in paint colour so the outline of the old stripe is still there though.

Cleaned,Simoniz Diamond waxed/polished and finished with CarPlan No 1 super gloss.See if that has any lasting effect.

That is exactly what I thought.

Changed the thermostat and WOW!! Now get warm air through the heater so much more quickly  Good times!

Went for a drive and the exhaust pipe sheared off where it meets the back box. :slightly_frowning_face: Bad times!

But it was fun to rev & roart down the country lanes a la boy racer on the drive home!
