I think it’s a beautiful colour
I also bought a set recently - don’t have a garage so will probably wait until Spring before fitting them. They look so good it’s a shame they won’t really be seen. Also bought the extenders for adjusting the rears.
Waiting till Spring before fitting springs - how fitting…
Yes l probably won’t fit mine until the Spring either l have a garage but it’s not quite big enough to work on the car in , patience is the name of the game but l will find it quite hard to wait. I bought the extenders as well worthwhile to have I think let’s hope they perform as good as they look.
After what seems like an age (it was an age) finally got the rattle canned boot lid and knock off KG Works spoiler fitted.
The spoiler comes in black plastic, but its a bit uneven in colour, even after waxing. So I painted it satin black. There is 3M tape holding it on, but I’ve put in self tappers where the fake pop rivets were meant to go (temporary galvanized screws, so they won’t stay shiney).
I’ve gone as far as I dare, with my capabilities, to get a shine on that paint, without fear of going through the lacquer (already did that…). Anyone have any tips to get to a better shine? I’ve wet sanded down to 3000 grit, machine polished using Halfords cutting paste, polished with some random instant shine juice found in the garge (which promised to remove 1500 grit sanding marks) and then polished with Meguiars Ultimate Compounds, finished with Autoglym Ultra Deep and Zymol Carnuba.
Looks amazing for a rattle can job. The whole car look great. Personally I’m at a stage in life where it’s depressing to look at my face in a mirror, don’t really want to see it reflected in a car.
I wish my rattle canned car looked like urs. Mines really rough and has no shine
It wasn’t easy, and a polisher (albeit a cheap one off Amazon, learn on the job) was essential.
The bootlid has orange peel, the rest of the car not. Thought the car has now at least 3 different shades of Montego Blue I wouldn’t rattle can an entire car.
My biggest frustration was the edges, and inadvertantly cutting through the clear coat.
I remember a '72 Morris Marina I had. A rattle can and quick wipe over with T-Cut gave a finish that stood out as much more shiny and smoother than the factory paint.
Montego Blue entails a base coat, which is flat paint, and then lacquer, to give the shine. Only with the lacquer does the paint have a metallic finish. Otherwise, it looks a dull blue, no matter how hard you polish.
Should be able to get a nice shine using the cutting paste alone if the paint has cured properly. Did you reduce it down with water as you went along? It won’t give a shine if you don’t.
Yes, I did
Saz, I realise it is possibly too late now but you could try “paint leveler”. This is available from Halfords in large rattle cans. It’s intended use is to reduce orange peel and sags in paint. A large horizontal surface like a boot lid would be an ideal application for this product.
Thinner in a can. Looks like its intended only for small spots. Halfords warns over use of it will cause the paint to run.
Well yes, it will probably be a solvent. Of course there are limits to it’s use. Regarding the overuse possibly causing running. Your boot is a flat item that can be kept horizontal. Somebody else may find this useful even if you don’t.
Been doing a fair bit of refurb to my NC1, including these same coilovers - fitted yesterday by AK Automotive near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, who were excellent and included a full wheel alignment (£250 in total). About 40mm lower than standard (now 34cm from wheel centre to wheel arch). Cleared a load of speed bumps near their workshop so no height problems. Early days yet so can’t say how good they are (50 mile run back up the A1 so not exactly taxing). Steering seems to feel a bit more planted and they are stiffer but pretty compliant at the same time.
Finally (second attempt) I’ve fitted the boot lip. Bit of heat needed to make a good adhesion for the 3M tape.
Also a minor addition after waiting an age (Mx5parts out of stock) I’ve fitted the boot badge right side.
My Meisters arrived today whoopee , can’t wait to get them on now ,but patience is a virtue or so they say .
Cars looking good Mick keep up the good work.
Thanks
Those MeisterR’s are a possibility on my want list, I’ve just got to justify to myself I need them. The car already has Sportives on, pretty new too but without the adjustability of the CRD’s of course.
