Last of the young blue tits left our bird box this morning.

Parents have worked really hard, back and forth with grubs and caterpillars over last few weeks and got quite used to us being about in the garden.

I was standing guard some of the time this morning, watching for magpies swooping in for them on the lawn, which was the sad demise of many of last years fledglings.

Hopefully see the parents and some young survivors back at the feeders in the coming days/weeks.

We’ve got a family in our box, it’s a new (yellow) box right next to the kitchen door.
They must be ready to exit and take flight in the next few days. I spent around 3 hours last time we had them in a box with a chair in the kitchen, counted 7 fly out, most making a dive for the lower positioned hanging basket.

I can’t stand birds. Pooing all over cars. Overrated things.

I’m taking to the ladder soon to chop a couple of branches off the county council’s tree. It’s overhanging my driveway by a long way and now the pigeons are making a right mess on the slabs. I have to keep the car well away, it’s like concrete when it sets.
The council man told me it’s ok to cut any overhang my side, he was inspecting the tree last month.

Should be interesting, a 71 year old bloke balancing on a ladder with his trusty Lidl battery operated saw, what could go wrong?:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’ll be worth it to stop those pests.

My paramedic daughter will tell you that the biggest cause of “older” men in a&e is because of falls from ladders……
Be careful

More birds. Blue tits in the garden made their first flights yesterday. One obviously thought I’d be a good platform to take a quick break on and my wife managed to capture this.

Our little BT family flew from the tiny hole in the shed-eaves more than a week ago, so I missed their first steps.

Now they’ve ceased zooming round the garden pestering the parents, and instead are content to clean the bugs off my espaliers and silver birch and push each other off the bird feeder.

But I never seem to have a suitable camera handy!

Up early this morning 6am, as I opened the bedroom curtains I could see action😮 The the tits were emerging😮
Blue tits were taking there first flight.
Now I can cut down that climbing clematis which has reached next doors extension roof. Spot the blue tit😁

This beauty went right over my head at the local air show this afternoon. Not the best quality photo as it was taken with a phone but an iconic silhouette.
