Don’t buy a house in Wales.
lol that’s where I live
Drove from Cambridge to Tintagel twice in torrential rain (once with rain throughout the journey!)and the ND did not suffer - soft top or underneath - my Mazda dealer says the car is brilliant underneath - 8th year service next week - hoping this is still true!
So do not worry ND 12 - they are hardy little cars and so much fun to drive - 300 + miles with constant rain was not a problem.
Wishing you good, safe journeys - even in the wet.
I’m still scared
Hello John,
I recently undersealed my car and if I get caught in the rain (mostly planned days out/trips) it definately eases anxiety around rust, albeit the car is nearly 35 years old.
Also you can treat the top quite easily for the same reason.

Hope this helps,

Be brave!
My car has none of the treatments Theo wisely suggests above - If you follow his advice, it should give you peace of mind.
5s are meant to be used and enjoyed - come rain and shine. If it’s wet, I leather my car off, wipe down the soft top with an absorbant cloth (- old towels are brilliant), before I shut the garage door
if I waited for a fine day at present then I my 5 would be permanently garaged.
Courage! Mon Brave!
Quite funny these replies.
I narrow this to as I apply it to most things in life: I drive my car which I bought with my money the way I want to. Anyone else is more than welcome to drive their car, which they spent their money on, in whatever way they choose
That Cortina would be worth a good few quid today, bet you wish you still had it.
Haha! Yes, and yes.
Don’t visit Tintagel carpark then. The ghost of King Arthur plays tricks on you.
The first time I went I was on my own. The starter motor in my MGB GT went bang, 300 miles from home. I had to push start it for a week. A couple of years later I took my wife-to-be in her mark 1 Ford Escort to show her where I had broken down - and promptly locked us out of the vehicle, 300 miles from home. She was not impressed.
I noticed a similar car parked nearby and waited until the owner came back, told him what I’d done and tried his key in our car. It opened first time!
Haven’t been back since.
No worries - I was only trying to be helpful.
Enjoy your 5 your way- they are great to drive!
Being as the topic is called “Where have you been in your MX-5 today?” and you posted that you’ve not been anywhere, that could be classed as trolling…. In the same way as there is etiquette in pub chat, there is also etiquette in forum chat.
Agreed. I trust you informed the other parties involved as well
No worries also- so was I
I used to own a MK1 Escort 1300 GT, i never worried about getting locked out of it because it was usually possible to unlock it with any pointed object. Happy days.
Nowhere today as had too much to do at home and hubby had to attend hospital due to a fractured elbow - drove himself in his Peugeot lol
If the locks were worn enough pressure from the thumb on the outer plate and turn would often do it.
While pull-up door locks still existed a screwdriver to gently lever the top of the door out, and a suitably bent coat hanger to feed down the crack and pull the lock up, was usually all that was needed. (Or so I’m told, officer…)
Exactly!
