Not exactly today but crossed to Netherlands last Monday evening. Stayed a couple of days in Amersfoort (Netherlands) then the Eifel area of Germany (plus Belgium and Luxembourg briefly). Ferry back Sunday night 29th Sept. Night ferry crossings Harwich to Hoek van Holland and return. Pics include Ferry, windmills (of course), enjoying a beer, my 30AE finding a Dutch friend in Germany and various other location pics.
Another forty miles, just shaking it down you understand…. Got stuck behind a slow train early on a Long&Twisty. The one in front was an Audi TT RS.
Parked up with a long road in my rear mirror. Waited and waited yet the road was still empty after 2 ish minutes.
Had a lovely blast through the bends until finally ending up behind the TT again: still doing 35 mph thereabouts. This happened once again so got a good percentage of the bends to myself.
Not sure what the TTdriver made of my unusual appearances in their rear view….
There’s always one!
Blimey that’s some aerial you have there, is the DAB reception any good?
Indeed. The only place you can criticise too slow speed is on a motorway. I followed an electric car at 25 in a rural forty. The driving suggested this person shouldn’t be in charge of a lethal weapon. Spent far too much time with a wheel over the center line and almost came to a halt at any bend. It was painful to watch.
Having spent a 3 year posting in Germany in the 80’s, this was a favourite village to visit, went back a couple of years ago just before Christmas, Gluhwien and bratties mit frites.
Monschau ?
Yes agreed, and there are far too many of that type of driver on the roads, although he/she could have been under the influence etc, in any case, driving standards have dropped hugely in the last 20 years or so. I took the IAM advanced driving course and test a few years ago (i passed) and i think it would be a good idea if every driver did the same, although it would probably have to be mandatory to make any real difference.
Been there a few times now and it’s always very pretty. We were also at Bad Munstereifel, about 35 miles from Monschau, which is also pretty nice. It was very badly affected by the severe floods back in 2021 (which seemed to miss Monschau). Work is still going on but it looks much as it did before the flooding. We were there in 2022 and it was very clear then just how bad it had been. We first went there in 2019 so have seen how it was prior to the damage. Pics attached are from our 2022 visit including a (not very clear) ‘photo of a photo’ showing the flood as it happened.
Yes, but you do have to hit it just right, empty but for one MX5 as well as the beautiful sunshine. Or you squint reeeeally hard…!
20 miles to pick up a minty copy of the Haynes Mazda MX5 Miata for a princely £3. It was just ten miles away. Any excuse eh?
Upper Coquetdale in Northumberland.
