Where have you been in your MX-5 today?

Not today, but that glorious day we had in the north west on Saturday we had a run out. I had washed my MX-5 the weekend before so it was gleaming in the sunshine :+1:.

The run out took us by coincidence :face_with_hand_over_mouth: past Chorley Group MG.

So I have chosen the colour I want and had a sit and play in it…

Parked next to a Taycan at the station.

Don’t know whether to be shocked or indifferent at the sheer size of the Taycan, a supposedly “sporty” electric car!!!

I have been a passenger in one and they are insanely fast - but I understand the MG4 Trophy is now faster - albeit small margins.

I don’t usually like yellow cars, but somehow it looks absolutely excellent on that car.

Looks ok and the right colour. Will be interesting to see how sales go compared to the MX.

Did a run through over the weekend from Tiverton across to Crediton and back down into Exeter over the weekend, great little road

Given we’d had loads of rain where I am of late, with Sunday being one of those total howler rain days, I took the ‘advantage’ that at least it washes the salt away (all in all), to give my ND its first spin for a month to the day, as it was all nice and dry. Could only manage 14 miles (wanted to do 25 or so for the oil), as some shower clouds looked looming and though I’d cut my loses (don’t drive it in the wet). The forecast is to go cold again where I am, hence the salt’ll be back. Like getting in a winter spin when possible, as it cleans the disks up nicely (which were fine though, in gratitude, due to a poster on here who recommend these particular wheels covers). It’s been a pretty dry winter all things considered, at least where I am, resulting in getting it out only about 4X since mid Nov.

Yeah, imagine an ND in that colour!

Nothing a wrap won’t sort

It needs to be offered as a proper factory paint option though, in my opinion.

Pretty sure it would look great! :+1:

Yes it does indeed look great! :+1:

We headed to Southside Hustle meet at Wimbledon Common, London. Fantastic mix of cars on every corner and perfect weather to match. MX looked at home behind a Diablo SV.

Had a lovely topless run out in the sunshine around Breckland as far as Swaffham and back. Absolutely loved it. It almost felt like spring.

Went out for a run up the A5 to Leicestershire on sunday. I think the first top down for me this year. 2 other MX5s out; both grubby NAs like me, top down.

I’ve realised I’ve missed the 20 anniversay since buying this car.

How it looked 31 January 2005

Then some highs and lows over the years

And now. 20 years ago, it had about 80k kms when I acquired it. Its now on 280k kms. Its had lots of brakes, a few hoods, a few changes in suspention, been repainted (and now could do with another repaint), an engine swap

Its a bit rattly these days, the trim is worn, the paint is worn, the hood starting to split, but it will still redline happily, starts on the button after 5 weeks in a cold garage. Still brings a smile. Will be sad when it has to go, like cutting off an arm.

Great history. :+1: The front valance damage…“OUCH”…What caused it?

I caused it. One cold but bright March, 2010, on the morning commute, very quiet road. Driving through a village on a back road, past the national speed limit, and (gently!) accelerated. The inside rear wheel slipped on an iced manhole cover, and the car gently spun 180 into the grass bank opposite, with me as a passenger. The factory M2-1001 bumper was kevlar and shattered, Probably saved the car. The wings were a bit creased, but otherwise the car was fine. The kicker was only a few months earlier the car had been repainted. The coachworks spoke up for me to keep the car on the road. Bonnet survived. So consequently the car is now 3 shades of M8 (4 if you count the cash of a rattle can job I did on the bootlid).

The sad thing is my time with the car is coming to an end. I intend to move to Thailand, and Thailand has completely banned used imports. Starting price of a Mk1 MX5 there is about £8000, if I’m prepared to accept something with an old Nissan engine and autobox, nice ones are £25,000 and up. It can’t come with me.

If that happened to me, the bonnet on my ND2 wouldn’t survive because it has the pedestrian safety thing on it where the bonnet destroys itself. Apparently very expensive to fix!
We bought a house in Thailand in 2005 in Hua Hin. A detached 3 bed 2 bathroom Thai style house. we had loads of family holidays there and everything was great until the old king died. There was talk of the authorities clamping down on foreign ownership (you own nothing in Thailand) and everything to do with the house was becoming a lot more expensive. We decided to sell it in 2019 and were shocked to discover that it was worth less than we paid for it. Thankfully, the exchange rate worked in our favour and we just about broke even. In reality though, we spent far more on it over the years than we got back.
Lovely country, lovely people!

Not really been anywhere, apart from a quick blast locally to try nice new front tyres (Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6) on both 5s. Such a lovely day here in the Scottish Borders.
