Where have you been in your MX-5 today?

You were near a statue. Even I can see that.

Stirling Castle?

I went up for a New Year in Stirling - vaguely remember something like this. In fact, ‘vaguely remember’ is appropriate for the whole trip - I had trouble keeping up with the locals celebrating!

Thought you’d get it Mick.

Yup.
10/10 for being pissed as well.

Just looking at the front drivers side tyre. It looks like it is on the wrong way around. As the tyres look like unidirectional, they should look like the one on the passenger side, ie when the tyre rotates, the water should be pushed out towards the edge of the tyre. However the drivers side one will push the water towards the centre of the tyre, which could cause aquaplaning in the wet… There would be a direction of travel arrow on the edge of the tyre… May be just the picture though.

Love the car though!!

Blimey. Possibly a good shout .
Well spotted Batman.
Tread patterns are certainly miss matched.

Thanks for comments regarding tyres, but I believe tread patterns are correct for the Uniroyal Rainsport 3s that are fitted. They are an asymmetrical tread pattern and the important fitting instruction is outside marking to outside, not direction of travel. There is no directional arrow on the tyre wall.

**From the Uniroyal Website addressing the question " Are there different left and right tyres with the RainSport 3 and RainExpert 3?

This is a question we’re often asked and the simple answer is no. The groove patterns on the inner and outer shoulders are different but so long as you adhere to the OUTSIDE and INSIDE instructions it makes no difference which side of the car they’re used on. In this case the broad linear or circumference grooves, that can absorb extremely high amounts of water, are located correctly on the inside. This high intake volume ensures that no water can accumulate in front of the tyre. The tyre can’t start to float so your risk of aquaplaning is minimised.

What is the right way to fit the tyres?

The design of the RainSport 3 and RainExpert 3 combines the best elements of directional and asymmetrical tread patterns. But what does this mean when it comes to fitting them? While directional tyres feature an arrow printed on their sidewall, to show the required direction of travel, asymmetrical tyres (including flow-optimised asymmetrical tread patterns) have words stamped onto their sidewalls. The direction of travel is immaterial. What’s important is that you adhere to the instruction to face the side marked OUTSIDE on the roadside edge, away from the centre of the car. RainSport 3 and RainExpert 3 are fitted like asymmetrical tyres, with their larger tread blocks on the outside.

Mystery solved.
Since there is no mystery… :+1:

Just a test for you, I’m thinking the third down may test you, who knows?
All taken on our travels, can’t wait to get back and do it all again.

Fair enough - I was not aware of this, as I knew that there were tyres that were supposed to be directional and can only be fitted in one way. However as long as yours are ok, then great! Just thought I would point it out in case it was wrong, but obviously not, so no harm done…

Unfortunately I have not travelled around Scotland, so I have no idea, but I must say that first picture looks a lovely spot. My wife and I were watching a TV program recently about train journey’s (you can tell I am getting old!!!) and there was one that went past Loch Lomond, which inspired us to consider a few days driving around that area in my new ND… I must say you have some fantastic scenery…

Yup.
I’m about a half hour away from the gateways of it all.
Just sayin’ :hamburger: :tumbler_glass:

Understood - will give you a shout if we make it. Need to sit down over the next couple of weeks with SWMBO and look at some UK breaks.

Brill!

Having spotted something that you thought could have been an issue I’m most grateful you took the time to raise it :+1:

BTW your new ND in looks stunning. The Berkeley colour is officially ‘Sparkle Green’, I think yours should be Sparkle Red, cos it certainly does!

Yours is a really great colour and looks in fantastic condition. I had an NA, but it needed a lot of work/respray and I had decided that I was not prepared to spend the £4k it would have cost and bought a new car, as I also got rid of my golf and use this as my daily driver. However I only go to work 3 days a week and that is 120 miles a week. However I am going the “long” way around and its more like 180 miles, but far nicer… looking forward to some longer trips soon. I currently jump at any chance to go for a drive!

Back on topic, been to Aberaeron today. Didn’t need the van,so took the NB. Slight detour home up over the Black Mountain down into Brynamman. Roof down all journey, despite the rain for 1st half hour.

I’ve been to the second pic down, the commando memorial at Lochaber, we stayed at Stalag Luft III in Spean bridge and cycled up to the memorial and then down the hill to the Caledonian Canal, we then cycled back down to Fort William and got a couple of Scotch pies (couple for me that is, the Obergruppenfuhrer just had the one). Very moving memorial.
