Where have you been in your MX-5 today?

Yes we stayed a while there, quite an outstanding memorial in a prominent spot.
First picture is Inveraray, we were due to stay last year a few yards up the road from that monument but of course had to cancel third pic is the Bruce memorial statue in Dumfries.

Quick blast across Dartmoor for me today, I had to go out cos I suddenly got paranoid after reading the gearbox problem thread last night! I think mine seems fine on that front though

A sunny top down 70 mile round trip to pick up a batch of 54 wind blocker screens. Fish and chips and a pint on the way home in a nicely distanced beer garden at Lincolnshire’s oldest thatched pub.

I think as yours is a 1.5 that is less likely to be a problem… Hope the drive today has put your mind at rest!

First outing in 6 months, went for MOT. Pass no advisories, but it has only done 2000 miles since the last MOT (2 yrs ago, thank you gov’t extension)

Out to IKEA in Reading - got back to the parking lot to droooool a bit over the Recaro next to me …

Just before sorting out the hilarious practicality of MX5-ishness.
Who says you can’t shop for mirrors in an MX5? Practical!

A shortish trip up to Sheffield this morning. Far more rewarding journey home with new springs, better rubber, and a sprinkling of Paul’s alignment magic!

Been waiting for this day for a long time… Met a friend in his new car a Mini John Cooper Works. Had a fantastic drive from Chester to Ruthin then Evo Triangle, Betsw y Coed, Llanberis Pass, Caernarfon, Bedgelert, Ffestiniog and returning home via Bala. Can’t tell you how nice it was to be back in Wales and the traffic was pretty lightšŸ‘ My NC2 held its own pretty well against the much more powerful mini (230bhp). My friend noted how stable the mx5 was in the corners and how flat it stayed (MeisterR Zeta CRD) even with his clever adaptive suspension the lighter car looked to have the edge when cornering. The mini not surprisingly left me behind until I could get the engine spinning fast enough but not as much as I thought it would. Totally different cars but seemingly well matched on winding mountain roads. I was concerned at one point that something on my suspension was loose as the car was rattling and clunking slightly. Handling felt fine so we pressed on, turns out the noise was coming from the Minis sport exhaust crackling and popping when he was in the lead.
A fantastic day out covering 200 miles enjoying our cars and the magnificent roads and scenery. Motoring nirvana just for a few hours…

Such great roads up there… Has been over 30 years since I drove these wonderful routes… A friend of mine had a home in Ffestiniog, and later one just outside the village… Drank a lot of beer in The Manod pub…! Did a pleasure flight out of Caernafon in a De Havilland DH89 Rapide…! And on my last visit had a well tasty Indian curry in Porthmadog…
We used the train a lot on early visits so we could go out on the beer! Went from Ffestiniog down to Llandudno every day, and out as far as Chester too and mant places inbetween… But the most memorable times, were in my 1981 Mazga 323 1.5GT, and it only seems right that I need to revisit those roads in another Mazda… my MX5ND2…!

Sounds like a great drive out.
Having driven a Mini Cooper S for a while at work, I would not even trade my 1.8 MK3.75 for one.

Chasing asparagus in the Vale of Evesham.

It is motoring heaven on a quiet day. Only passed a couple of cars on the Llanberis pass which is not the norm especially around the entrance to the Pyg Track car park. I noticed that Welsh roads are in much better condition than the roads in England which makes life less stressful when your not dodging pot holes or being showered in gravel by Chelsea tractors coming the other way. The only damage might come from hitting a sheep on some of the faster moorland roads. A beady eye and my Stebel Nautilus air horn helped tremendously. Sounds like you need to go and revisit but I’d do it before the schools break up.

Very envious about the flight in the Dragon Rapide, proper aeroplane from a bygone era. I have managed flights in a DH2 Chipmunk and a DHC6 Twin Otter Sea Plane in Canada but not quite the same. Used to be a great little museum at Caernarfon Airport don’t know if it’s still open or not?

Great roads - I used to travel from Cheshire to Portmadog when I worked there for a year. The road, particularly the one on from Bala was a great drive and probably the best thing I remember about that year. I will probably do the journey again this year if I get a day free.

Indeed the roads are better maintained in Wales, but then I never understood why they are so bad in England.

Too much traffic and cow ā– ā– ā– ā–  maybe?
